What do you think of Joni?

I am 38 weeks with DD2 and suddenly having doubts about the name we had picked.
We were pretty set on Edith / Edie, but I am now not sure. I love Edie but am not as keen on Edith. Also my DD1 is called Mabel so it would be two 'old lady' names, and I worry about it sounding quite 'amusing' when we introduce them!
So last night my DP suggested Joni (inspired by Joni Mitchell). I think it's quite a cool name and there are unlikely to be others in her class at school, but my worry is that she would have a life of people asking what it is short for, and possibly even pronouncing it 'Johnny'!
Thoughts?

I think most people will be OK with the pronunciation. I think of Joni as an American name (but I'd think the same about Edie, tbh), but I like it very much. She can always use Jo if she prefers.

Absolutely love it! Love Joni Mitchell too, think it's a gorgeous name, girly and strong at the same time

Good idea. Edie ivory popular now.

We're considering Joni as a nickname for future DDs, but spelled Joanie. Full name would be Joanna, with Joanie for short. Joanie's easier to know how to pronounce but I don't think many people would mispronounce Joni.

I really like it!
Mabel and Joni - sounds cooler to me than Mabel and Edith/Edie ( though I like Edie too )

I know a wee Joni and think it's a lovely name. I'm not aware of there being any confusion from others about name and if it is short for something. Works well with Mabel too Smile

I really like Joni and I think people would be okay with pronunciation due to Joni Mitchell, who most people will have heard of.

I used to know twins called Edith and Joni! Don't think you'd be going wrong with either, but my choice would be Joni in honour of Ms Mitchell

I love it! It's on our (very long) list but hasn't made it to shortlist... Yet. I like that it's short punchy strong and not cutesy! I also like Edie but I know what you mean with Mabel. I'd go Joni. And writing this is actually making me realise how cool it is. Good luck!!

What's not to like? It's easy to spell, say and not used too widely already!

Love it, if we'd had a girl she would probably be called Joni.
