___James Arthur

Any suggestions of first names that are not too "out there" to go with James Arthur as middle names please? I am not bothered if the names are super popular, in fact I tend to like more popular names.

The only two I like are Thomas James Arthur and Louis James Arthur.

We have a newly born Louie! Love the name and had so many good comments but we chose to spell it ie instead of Louis

Edward. Charles? It sounds like it should be 'trafitional'. Wayne just won't sound right!

Robert
Matthew
David
Nicholas

James Arthur are traditional names in part of DH's family (consecutive generations of eldest sons are James Arthur and Arthur James, and repeat) and these are some names used or considered.

Edward James Arthur is lovely but a little, I don't know, stuffy?

Love Matthew and Patrick. David has been taken already and Nicholas doesn't sound good with the surname (plus it's the masculine form of my middle name)

Full names often sound stuffy, yes: they're your "in trouble" name Grin

Would you prefer to use a full name or are you a nicknames/shortenings kind of family? Eg would your Matthew be Matt or Kiddo or something? That makes a lot of difference to your choices.

You hardly ever use middle names in real life, so although it's good if the whole thing flows, it's more important to find a first name that goes well with the surname and is usable on its own.

If you choose Louis please spell it Louis not Louie, and obviously pronounce it properly i.e. not like Lewis!

I would choose a name you love, not one that matches your middle names as these rarely get used.

I like Louis or how about William, Quentin or Dominic?

I know a few Louis' and most of them pronounce it the non-Fench way, Lou-is. In Germany, Scandinavia and Spain the name is written Louis or Luis and the s is always pronounced. So I would't assume that people outside of France necessarily pronounce it the French way Smile.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Really like Daniel, Samuel (although had a much loved and still talked about dog called Sam growing up), Dominic, Luke, Milo (taken by a cat in the family!) and Oliver.

I think I'd go with Louis. It's a gorgeous name. I'm not sure if I'd go for a 'T' initial for the first name incase they became TJ. (Although I always massively overthink these things so may be no issue at all!!) x

Just going to throw a completly different tack on here and say:

Guy James Arthur

Love the name Guy. Suppose it depends on the surname too xx

Also, have you thought of Lewis rather than Louis.

WannaBeAMummy16 · 24/01/2016 08:43

I'm not keen on Guy, but thank you for the suggestion. I hadnt actually thought of Lewis!
