What are people's opinions on this name? Also any middle name suggestions welcome! Thanks

ILoveGreekCats Wed 20-Jan-16 06:30:24

It's beautiful. For a middle name maybe Charlotte, Rose.

Thank you! I was thinking Amelie Rose is an obvious choice but my sister has 2 girls called Emily and Rose and I think it would be too similar!

PotteringAlong Wed 20-Jan-16 06:34:33

If your sister has a girl called Emily don't call her Amilie.

Jw35 Wed 20-Jan-16 06:39:08

Why not? We don't live near each other (she's in Cumbria I'm in Berkshire), her dd Emily is 17 now so it's not likely they will play together! I also don't think she would mind, it's not the same name! It's not something that would bother her.

Love it. It does sound similar to Emily however but if your sister doesn't/won't mind, then not an issue. It was top of my list for DD but I didn't go with it in the end partly because DH has a niece called Emilia (who we actually see once every 4 years or something so probably it would have been fine to use!).

Thanks!

Another thing..would Fleur be a nice middle name? It means flower in French. Amelie Fleur thoughts?

Only1scoop Wed 20-Jan-16 09:01:58

I always think it's a wishy washy cross between Emily and Amelia.

Luke Fleur though.

Sunshine511 Wed 20-Jan-16 09:06:10

I think Amelie is quite nice! I understand what PP said about it being too similar to Emily but I suppose, if you're 100% sure your sister won't mind, then it's your choice! Fleur is lovely x

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit Wed 20-Jan-16 09:08:12

I love Amelie, great name.

Amelie Fleur goes really well.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight Wed 20-Jan-16 09:09:44

Amelie is so dated and sounds very blah in an English accent

Lebkuchenlover Wed 20-Jan-16 14:37:27

The grandparents would have an Emily and an Amelie and they do sound very similar. I really like Fleur and would use that as first name.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere Wed 20-Jan-16 14:39:26

Yes Fleur Amelie sounds better!

squoosh Wed 20-Jan-16 14:56:06

It's a bit faddy and it reminds me of that terrible film.

Fleur is nicer.

Jw35 Wed 20-Jan-16 15:35:19

Funny enough my dad lives down south with me and my mum loves up north with my sister so not sure the grandparent thing would matter either! Thanks for the comments, I've gone off Fleur!

WannaBeAMummy16 Wed 20-Jan-16 17:15:58

Amelie is beuatiful. Amelie Claire?

IHaveBrilloHair Wed 20-Jan-16 17:18:39

I think it's lovely, but there are so many Amelies, Emilys, Emilias, Amelis, Ellas etc that it can seem a bit blah.

PotteringAlong Wed 20-Jan-16 18:33:56

But it would matter in a "what are your grandchildren called?" "Emily and Amelie". It's basically the same name!

Lancelottie Wed 20-Jan-16 18:43:23

In some bits of Cumbria and Lancashire, Amelie Claire would pretty much rhyme with Amelie Fleur...

Fairygodmotherx Wed 20-Jan-16 18:45:12

I have to agree with PotteringAlong. I think it's a bit strange to have grandchildren with the names Amelie and Emily. Also, will they ever see each other? If they'll be spending time together now and again, it could be rather odd. Also, have you spoken to your sister? Has she said she wouldn't mind?

SingSongSlummy Wed 20-Jan-16 18:47:40

Unfortunately there are millions of Amelies around here aged between 0-6yrs

figureofspeech Wed 20-Jan-16 22:59:34

It is a very beautiful but popular name. I volunteer at a primary school and there are fifteen girls with that name but only one Liselle. But if you love it and don't mind the popularity then that's the main thing.

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit Wed 20-Jan-16 23:09:06

Why would it be odd to have grandchildren Amelie and Emily?

Yes the names are similar sounding but so what?

Jw35 Thu 21-Jan-16 08:27:36

Thank you Tangerine! I really don't understand why Emily and Amelie would be an issue! Emily is almost 18 and barely around the younger children! Also they live so far away!

pilates Thu 21-Jan-16 08:32:55

I like it and wouldn't be put off by its popularity, (I only know one BTW).

Amelie Pearl
Amelie Claire
Amelie Jane
Amelie Lucy
