DH granpher was called Frederick. DH likes Freddie and I like Alfie.

Can Alfie be a connection to Frederick?

Alfie would technically be the nn name from Alfred.

I just wondered if it could stretch as a nn from Frederick instead of Freddie.

While you can use any name as a nickname if you really want to, there's no connection between Frederick and Alfie that I can see.

What about Frederick Alfred nicknamed Alfie? Not sure if the 'fred' repetition is too much. (Alfred Frederick is definitely too much.)

I wouldn't consider Alfie a derivative of Frederick.

I don't think there is a connection.

There isn't a connection between Alfie and Frederick, but you could have Alfred and then call him Alfie or Freddie.
