Interesting names! I quite like them actually! Slightly prefer edie to Meredith but at the end of the day it's totally yours and DP decision. Stuff everyone else!

I don't like Meredith. It gives me a prissy 'virtue name' vibe like Verity etc. Which isn't a good thing. Plus that tiresome moose from Grey's Anatomy.

Edie is much better. The one I know is just Edie.

Oh I don't watch Grey's anatomy. Is that an instant leap when you hear it?

I know a lovely Meredyth, nickname Merri. I like both names.

Prefer Edith as the long name for Edie. Meredith reminds me of the murder in Italy.

Ahh, see I don't like merri but I guess they decide what they choose to be called when older?!

I think greys anatomy too. But that shouldn't matter as it is not a kids show.

Pretty name btw.

I like Meredith. It sounds American to my ear. Edie is sweet, but for me not the most natural nickname from Meredith.

Like. Pretty, classic, not overdone.

I rather like it. You may think that me liking it is not a good thing

I love it, only ever known one Meredith and she was fantastic! Massively underused, without being too try hard.

I wouldn't worry about a nick name now though, let that come naturally.

A little mixed but mostly positive so far...My DH actually picked it, he didn't like anything else, and I wasn't convinced at first but it really has grown on me and I love it! In rl it seems to have got really positive reactions or a Hmm oh right...

I don't know any other Meredith.

I definitely thought Greys Anatomy immediately but who cares, it's a lovely name. And as an alternative nn you could have Meri (like merry). Go for it!

I think Meredith is horrible, sorry.

Love it, I know a charming girl called this.

I watch greys anatomy and they all call the Meredith character "Mer/Mare" which isn't a great shortening but is the inevitable one.

GladysTheGolem · 04/01/2016 08:56

I hate the character in Greys (she's a whingey, boring git) but love the name!

I love the name and like Merry or Edie nicknames - BUT I do immediately think of the poor girl murdered in Italy :( like greys anatomy and the Meredith in it so that wouldn't put me off.

Edie definitely. Meredith reminds me of that horrible woman in Parent Trap!

I never thought I liked Meredith but we have one in our extended family and it's really grown on me - its lovely. She occasionally gets Mere and she used to get Merry as a child.

I'm not as fussed on Edie as a nickname, to my ears its very trendy Wendy at the minute - it seems to be the "alternative" celebrity baby name of choice.

Meredith is great, Edie is horrible.

I like Edie. Meredith sounds sensible and a bit joyless.
