This is worse than the other thread, and that's saying something

Ophelia or Titania but realistically I wouldn't use either.

What other thread?

So why do you think they are bad names?

The first and the last sound pretty ugly and are all really pretentious imo.

Ahhhh back I quite liked one of the names on that one

Well, one's condemned to spend half the year underground, one's meant to be ravaged by a sea monster, one goes mad and drowns and the other one is engaged in a horrific argument with her husband...

Separating the stories from the names though, I like Ophelia and Persephone best.

Use them all as one massive super name for people to snigger at

What's wrong with John or Emma?

oneowlgirl · 04/01/2016 00:36

I love Persephone but would never have the nerve to use it!

It's not the name that's pretending to be anything it is potentially the parents choosing them. I don't know maybe if you were upperclass it might sound ok but otherwise I would feel sorry for the child and think the parent was a bit of a twat.

cas thank you for explaining what you meant I do think it's a bit odd thinking that but thanks for telling me.

All those names are names of relatives I'm incredibly fond of

Of the four I prefer Ophelia :)

Ophelia at a push; I wouldn't be keen on any of the others.

Penelope? Same theme, less outré ...

Obviously they are not on the list

Sorry sock, just a gut reaction and may well be quite odd.
I think it is possibly regional as well- I live on the west coast of Scotland but may have a very different view if I lived in the south east of England for example.

I'm certain sock is upper class, and how dare you presume otherwise?Wink
I like Ophelia as a name, but not the connotations, and Titania, but the nickname might be tricky.
Also like Silvia, and Diana. It might be time for a Diana revival.

My DD has a name along those lines....

Go with what you like - you're going to be using it everyday. Try shouting it a couple of times make sure you're surname isn't too jarring I quite like Ophelia x

It is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death this year, so perhaps there might be a revival of Shakespearean names.

In which case you might find a couple more Titanias in the reception class in four years' time...
