Trying to work out if James is too popular to chose. It's high in the lists but I don't actually know any

I have a James and we very, very rarely come across another. He's 12 now and never had another in his class or scout group or similar. Go for it!

I too have a James and there aren't any others we know. We do know a couple of Jamie's, being in Scotland, but no other James's.

I'm a teacher, always know a few. But it's lovely.

I know two baby James and a few in their thirties.

Dd is nearly 1 and we know 4 babies/toddlers called James, and most of the other baby boys we know have it as a middle name. But it's popular for a reason, it's a lovely name!

I have a James (10) - I don't know any others that are children.

SheGotAllDaMoves Sun 27-Dec-15 09:54:41

Very very popular in DS year at school ( he is 16 so may not be so popular now though ).

Lj8893 Sun 27-Dec-15 09:55:47

I know lots of adult James's (including dh) but not any young children.

CormoranStrike Sun 27-Dec-15 09:56:08

I know a 60 year old James and a seven year old James.

I am aware of a smattering of Jims and Jamies but it is not overused.

AlmaMartyr Sun 27-Dec-15 09:57:25

I know quite a lot of various ages. There are two currently in DD's Beaver colony, 3 in her year at school and one that I know of in DS' year. I've met others too. Not the most popular name though. Use it if you like it smile

My 19 year old DS is called James and although it's always been in the top ten list we actually don't come across others very often. It's always been my absolute favourite boys name, classic and timeless.

My sister just called her son James. She asked me how popular it is working with young children and even though James is roughly in the top 10 I have never taught a James. I don't think it is overly popular and think it is a strong and classic name.

bigbadbarry Sun 27-Dec-15 10:09:51

Two, both under 1. So maybe it is having a revival? It's very lovely though.

pieceofpurplesky Sun 27-Dec-15 10:10:19

I am a high school teacher and there are a couple in every year. Ten years ago there would be two or three in every class!
It's a lovely name

tryandtryagain Sun 27-Dec-15 10:11:44

My 3 year old nephew is called James and I think it's a beautiful. I know only 2 others in their thirties. It always reminds me of James and the giant peach.

reallybadidea Sun 27-Dec-15 10:14:09

I don't know of any Jameses, but heaps of Jamies and a Jim.

MrsLeighHalfpenny Sun 27-Dec-15 10:38:11

Don't use it unless you know how to write it in the plural!
Clue: its not James' blush

remembermewhen Sun 27-Dec-15 12:13:57

James is a great name,

I just wouldn't be keen on Jim/ Jimmy.

Floralnomad Sun 27-Dec-15 12:16:06

I know a few ( including my mums dog) but it's lovely .

FattySantaRobin Sun 27-Dec-15 12:20:51

My grandad was James, my dad is James, my older brother is James, my step-dad is James, the little boy I lived next door to for years was James. DS1s middle name is James. I know lots grin (to be fair, my step dad goes by Jim, my brother by Jimmy and my grandad went by his middle name. My dad is known as Jimmy or jock)

It's a nice name.

PontyGirl Sun 27-Dec-15 12:22:41

It's absolutely gorgeous. If I am ever lucky enough to have a son, he will be a James.

I don't know of any babies called James, but plenty with it for a middle name.

alltouchedout Sun 27-Dec-15 12:24:54

My brother is James there are lots of other Jameses in our age group (early-mid 30s). I don't know any children called James. It's my eldest's middle name. I think it's lovely.

TheOldestCat Sun 27-Dec-15 12:27:45

I know loads - my brother, best mate, his husband etc. but all in their 30s and 40s. Not many younger ones (my DS age 5) has it as a middle name. Lovely name - go for it.

Sunbeam1112 Sun 27-Dec-15 12:36:17

My brother is James and sons dad is james so i would say it's popular good name tho. I have a Joseph wasn't popular when I picked it but there's three Joes in his class!
