Seems so much easier to comment on other peoples choices than make my own I'm finding.

We are still dithering between

Susanna
Xanthe
Maeve

Surname is common boring one beginning with S

BendydickCuminsnatch Thu 24-Dec-15 10:42:57

Xanthe! smile

BendydickCuminsnatch Thu 24-Dec-15 10:44:05

I never know how to say Maeve, is it May-v or Meve to rhyme with Eve?

ThroughThickAndThin01 Thu 24-Dec-15 10:47:10

As you have a common boring surname I'd go with a more unusual first name so Xanthe, it possibly Maeve.

tuilamum Thu 24-Dec-15 11:10:26

I wouldn't go with so many Ss... What if she has a lisp?! I think Maeve personally

TyrionLannistersShadow Thu 24-Dec-15 11:13:22

I would choose Maeve or Xanthe, while Susannah is ok I really don't like any of the shorter forms ie Sue, Susie etc

AuntieStella Thu 24-Dec-15 11:19:49

Overall, I prefer Susannah (with an 'h')

But it might be too sibilant with your surname.

And (unhelpfully) I think the other two are great as well. Flip a coin?

DansonslaCapucine Thu 24-Dec-15 11:23:51

All great names.

If it's the surname I'm thinking of, I think Xanthe is best.

MrsHathaway Thu 24-Dec-15 11:26:12

Susanna S... is a bit slippery. What if the child has a lisp! Shame, because I love it and its shorts Susie and especially Sukey.

Xanthe S... is an odd combination, if you'll forgive me. DH vetoed Sebastian for DS2 on similar grounds, because Sebastian J... (as common and boring but Welsh) just didn't seem to go. Again, lovely name, but she'll have that surname for a long time. Save for middle name spot?

Maeve lovely and I think the best with your surname.

Lweji Thu 24-Dec-15 11:27:55

Although I usually don't care about initials I wouldn't go for SS.

roseandgrey Thu 24-Dec-15 11:27:56

Maeve is lovely.

timelytess Thu 24-Dec-15 11:31:26

Susannah.
Xanthe.
Maeve.
Use them all.

Lizziedripping1 Thu 24-Dec-15 12:00:01

We really liked Sukie but I never thought of the SS will people still think of that?

I'm slightly worried that when I've said Xanthe to some people they look confused sad

Lweji Thu 24-Dec-15 12:01:31

Maybe give her a middle name with an A and it would become SAS.

I'd love to put those in my lab bottles. grin

kaymondo Thu 24-Dec-15 12:25:28

I love xanthe, that gets my vote - and I think it goes with the boring s surname (and I should know, it was my maiden name!)

Raines100 Thu 24-Dec-15 12:30:08

Susannah nn Suki by a mile.
Sibilance is bliss wink

cecilelliott Thu 24-Dec-15 12:40:21

Susanna/h is such a gorgeous name, and I think the shortening Zanna retains the lovely feel of the name better than Susie/Sukey. Have you considered this?

Xanthe is a bit too much of a mouthful IMO

Good luck with choosing!

Sophronia Thu 24-Dec-15 14:10:25

Susanna is lovely. I like Susie or Annie as a nn.

CakeRattleandRoll Thu 24-Dec-15 15:55:12

Xanthe gets my vote.

Allalonenow Thu 24-Dec-15 16:04:12

I absolutely love Maeve, so please use it.

I'm not keen on Xanthe, it's a bit too "try hard" for me, and Susanna is a bit too plain, with not much sparkle, and your surname starts with S.

Which ever you use, I'm sure she will be beautiful and bring you much joy fsmile

Maeve with Susannah as middle name = gorgeous.

GoldPlatedBacon Thu 24-Dec-15 18:22:52

My dd is Xanthe. People do seem to struggle to grasp it I'm afraid. I have to say it at least 3 times that said I don't regret
