Which name do you prefer?

Not sure on the spelling for Merryn though...
Merryn / Maren? Any other suggestions.

Merryn would be to honour a Mary (at a stretch a Margaret as well ;)

Does it change to go with siblings Charlie and Tilly?

Merryn is pretty and feminine without being silly and frilly.

Mabel works in a transport caff and has a fag in her mouth at all times.

Merryn for me I don't like Mabel sounds dowdy and drab.

We have a Mabel and a Matilda. They are actually guinea pigs, but if they had been twin DDs I would still have used the names smile

I have a Merryn. Just turned five, it always gets lots of positive comments and is a known name without being popular.

I like mabel as well though it is more old fashioned.

Meredith was another name I liked.

I do love Merryn, am now expecting Dc6 and really struggling with girls names as I can't think of a girls name I like as much as Merryn.

The only Merryn I've heard of is a boy!

CakeRattleandRoll Fri 18-Dec-15 14:00:47

Love Merryn, especially with nn Merry.

I knew a charming Merrielle. Lovely name.

Mabel! Or Maeve?

I don't like Merryn, for some reason. It vaguely reminds me of unattractive 1970s names like Darren and Kerryn.

I know a child Meryn beautiful name but frequently got called Mirren by people .

MrsCaecilius Fri 18-Dec-15 14:26:41

Merryn, nn Merry is lovely.

Mabel does work in a transport caff (*quoosh*), I can just hear someone shouting 'Oi Mable, gimme another cuppa!'

I can't imagine the same for Merryn.

Sophronia Fri 18-Dec-15 14:33:07

Mabel goes very well with Charlie and Tilly.

MrsMarigold Fri 18-Dec-15 14:34:47

Love Merryn, and also Merrielle... (adds to my list...)

I like Merryn.

Miranda, Marla, Marianne?

brookeberry Fri 18-Dec-15 16:08:11

Hmmm . . . I love them both smile

brookeberry Fri 18-Dec-15 16:08:39

At a push, Merryn.

BlueChampagne Mon 21-Dec-15 12:07:51

Merryn by a million miles. Don't subscribe to old lady chic!

JakeyBurd Mon 21-Dec-15 12:27:47

Prefer Merryn of the two. As for spelling, that could vary depending on the source. Merryn is a Cornish spelling and was originally a boy's name. Merran is an old Scots form of Marion.

Isn't Maren a different name/sound though?

I've always liked Mabel, but lately I've heard Merryn in a couple of places, and I really like it.
