Issie

What are your thoughts on this as a stand alone name?

Like Isabella but popularity puts me off and I don't LOVE it whereas Issie is a name that I've always imagined calling my daughter.

Is it too close to ISIS???

Thanks all X

Hmm, I'm not sure. It would probably grow on me.

As an alternative what about Ishbel, then you could call her Ishy? A friend's wee girl is called this and it's lovely.

I think it's a nice name. If you like it, just use it.

I wouldn't even associate it with ISIS Confused

I vastly, vastly prefer it to Isabella or Isabel though (yawn). It's a sweet name.

It's how my 2 year old pronounces 'silly' so it makes me smile Smile

It's not so much that it's close to IS, but that it's close to Issa.

But could it be a nn for an -issa name, such as Nerissa or Clarissa?

If you want to call her Issie, just call her Issy, don't worry about having a "proper" name and permanently shortening it. Wouldn't make me think of ISIS one bit

Too close to Isis. Which should be a nice name, but oh well.
Mine is Izzy because we say that NN with a definite Z not S sound. Rhymes with fizzy not hissy.
Do you want Z or S sound?

I know a Kizzy - technically not short for anything but can be short for Catherine/Kathryn or whatever other version you like - could also be short for Keziah I guess.

Z sound or S sound?

Issey Miyake perfume is lovely :)

How about Isadora nn Issie?

Mrsindecision · 17/12/2015 14:14

Or Isaline nn Issie??

MamaLazarou · 17/12/2015 18:52

As in rhymes with hissy? Nah. Izzy is OK as a nickname for Isabel/Isabella though.

I agree with the people suggesting Clarissa, Larissa, Marisa type names.

Pinklily1 · 17/12/2015 20:44

I wouldn't even have thought of Isis!

Prefix it with the letter P and see if it still appeals!

I'd be thinking of Marisa, Clarissa etc as pps have said, then it's available as a nn.

Priscilla!

Very retro.

I love Priscilla. Makes me think of MA's wife, the children's doctor.

Isabel is very popular and by default Issie is too as it sounds so similar.

How about Fizzie?

Jw35 · 19/12/2015 12:59

No I think it should be short for something!

CherryPits · 19/12/2015 14:34

Its fine as a name on its own.

It's unfinished to me, I think it should have a full name with this as the nickname. We had this conversation at school about a girl with this name and wondered why she didn't have a longer version.

I like the sound of Issie. If you want to give her a long name as well, Issandra is the one that popped into my head.

My friend's daughter is Isolde (we're not in the UK). She has the nickname Issy. She is a lively and kind child and the nickname seems to suit her.
