Pronounced "z-oh-la"
I know nobody else is likely to be called thIs in her class.

Just wondered what others thought of it?

CultureSucksDownWords Sun 13-Dec-15 03:04:43

The pronunciation... do you mean "zo - la" two syllables, or do you mean a sort of separated "z" as you've written it which would be three syllables?

If "zo - la" then I think it's fine, although my immediate thought was Zola Budd. I don't think that's a bad association though.

Very pretty, like Nola. Plus, might lead to an interest in reading Emile Zola's books.

Barefoot runners tripping people up and the Dreyfus Affair.

GladysTheGolem Sun 13-Dec-15 03:19:38

Massive Chelsea fans? Would be my first thought;

MrsRhettButler Sun 13-Dec-15 03:22:36

I immediately think of Gianfranco Zola the football player, I'd assume you were a fan grin

Without thinking of him it is actually a lovely sounding name smile

ButterflyOfFreedom Sun 13-Dec-15 03:48:20

I know a dog named Zola (sorry).

I'm not keen - prefer Zara or Zoellick.

ButterflyOfFreedom Sun 13-Dec-15 03:49:04

Zoellick ?????!!

That should be Zoe!

VashtaNerada Sun 13-Dec-15 05:03:36

Makes me think of Emile too. I wouldn't immediately know if it was a boy or girls name, but I quite like it.

AuntieStella Sun 13-Dec-15 05:49:44

I'd think French surname (author and footballer).

cashewnutty Sun 13-Dec-15 05:51:50

I had a dog called Zola.

Hurr1cane Sun 13-Dec-15 06:29:13

I know a little girl called Zola.

It's a beautiful name

BowiesJumper Sun 13-Dec-15 06:31:27

Makes me think of grey's anatomy (cultured me). Pretty though!

Footle Sun 13-Dec-15 06:45:06

Perfectly ok name but E Zola isn't exactly nursery reading.

NewBallsPlease00 Sun 13-Dec-15 06:55:17

There is a Zola in devious maids

MaybeAnOverthinker Sun 13-Dec-15 07:11:19

Yes it's two syllables like Zo-la when pronounced!

Never seen a Chelsea match so wouldn't know of any players.

I was thinking Lily or Phoebe or possibly Emilia as a middle name?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight Sun 13-Dec-15 07:17:59

Zola is really nice. You couldn't have Zola lily. I would go for a single syllable middle name I think

Oysterbabe Sun 13-Dec-15 10:22:04

I immediately thought it was a boys name, probably because of the football association.

Sophronia Sun 13-Dec-15 11:42:39

Makes me think of Gianfranco Zola too.

Iguessyourestuckwithme Sun 13-Dec-15 11:45:05

Zola like greys anatomy

MaybeAnOverthinker Sun 13-Dec-15 12:51:01

That's where I heard it and loved it Iguess!

MotiSen Sun 13-Dec-15 13:24:21

Zola Leigh? Zolalee?

whattheseithakasmean Sun 13-Dec-15 13:27:38

Zola is lovely. My first thought was Zola Budd - I think a female athlete is a pretty good association.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Sun 13-Dec-15 21:04:49

I think it's horrible, sorry.

babyblabber Sun 13-Dec-15 21:08:06

There's a little girl in my daughter's class called Zola. I think it's really pretty!
