Is this pregnancy hormones making me think it's a good name? Are eddy and teddy very popular?

Floggingmolly Sat 12-Dec-15 14:08:10

Teddy is very popular, but Edison will be known as Eddie. So you'll have to like that just as much...

Boozena Sat 12-Dec-15 14:13:52

It is a nice name with nn but edison is a screw fitting on light bulbs and that's all I thought when I read it!

Dungandbother Sat 12-Dec-15 14:27:17

It's great.

I have an Eddy.

Why does everyone assume Eddy is spelt ie?

All look totally stupid with ie. To me at any rate. Makes them feminine.
I get girls names are now acceptable with ie and they have to say which way they are spelt.

But Eddy?

Anyway. Love Edison. Sorry for the thoughts

Dungandbother Sat 12-Dec-15 14:29:26

There's one Teddy, one Freddy and one Eddy at school. All have varied full length first names.

And mine is also called Ed a lot.
So do you like Ed and Ted?

delilabell Sat 12-Dec-15 14:30:19

Is it??? I had a dream about it the other night and liked it.
It would work with ds name as his is quite unusual

Dungandbother Sat 12-Dec-15 14:32:27

OP I think like me, you see it spelt with a Y

Lots of Ted's are actually Edward. So I still think Teddy works with Edison.

My Eddy is not an Edward nor an Edison.

delilabell Sat 12-Dec-15 14:33:42

Sorry does it was to screw fitting! I like eddie/y but not ed as much....have just msgd dh suggesting it. He's not even replied ;-)

Dungandbother Sat 12-Dec-15 14:36:42

My Eddy has only really become Ed at school (now 5) by some close friends. It's cute hearing his best mate (Harry) call out Hey Ed

celtictoast Sat 12-Dec-15 18:17:09

Light bulbs.

I prefer the less surnamey Ed names like Edward and Edwin.

delilabell Sat 12-Dec-15 19:44:51

They wouldn't go with ds1's name as they're too far apart. I think it's going to be a no from dhs reaction!

orlakielyimnot Sat 12-Dec-15 19:50:30

Great name! And you never know what his nickname will really be. He could have some funny incident with his friends arty some point and end up being called something random like Ant!

BondJayneBond Sat 12-Dec-15 19:57:06

There's an Edison at DS1's school. I did think it was odd at first, but it's grown on me.

Re. Eddy and Teddy - Edward seems to be getting a lot more popular, at least where I live, so that's likely to boost the number of boys going by Eddy / Teddy.

Syppox2000 Sat 12-Dec-15 20:02:10

We have an Eddison - Eddie. Everyone seems to love it !

RiverTam Sat 12-Dec-15 20:13:50

Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Izzard
Eddie the Eagle

to name but 3 well-known Eddies. Just for the pp who seemed baffled by this spelling.

I quite like Edison.

PeppaPigStinks Sat 12-Dec-15 21:29:30

I know an eddison - he is four and it hasn't been shortened!

brookeberry Sat 12-Dec-15 21:32:14

I like Edison and Eddie (or Eddy!) smile

RedToothBrush Sat 12-Dec-15 22:31:46

Edison rocks.

Edward is fine but a bit ordinary. Edwin is fusty.
Edison is awesome.

delilabell Sun 13-Dec-15 11:29:05

Dh is still not having it! I need to work on him!

MollyBloomYes Sun 13-Dec-15 12:46:36

I have an Edison. He goes by Ned but is only a toddler. I really like that he'll have lots of options when he's older along the Ted/Ed lines. Currently 37 wks pg and struggling to find a boys name I like as much so it would be easier if next one's a girl!

delilabell Sun 13-Dec-15 13:51:36

Ned is a brilliant nickname! I'm going in for a second attack shortly :-)

MollyBloomYes Sun 13-Dec-15 15:42:27

It definitely suits him!

Dungandbother Sun 13-Dec-15 17:26:13

Good luck from the Eddy Eddie Teddy Ned Ted and Ed lovers

Thatrabbittrickedme Sun 13-Dec-15 17:29:27

Edison sounds like an American trying to sound posh to me. Or a building.

reminds self am not supposed to comment on name threads and backs away

delilabell Sun 13-Dec-15 18:23:01

My dad said it sounds like a lighthouse! thatrabbit
