Don't do it!

City in Australia.

Charles.

But it could work. I don't know. I reckon it could be one if those names that once you've got used to it is perfectly ok!

Is it a boy's name? Hmm

Oysterbabe · 08/12/2015 22:31

I actually really like it but DH vetoed along with Gulliver. Some people are so boring Wink

I love it - if DC3 had been a boy he'd have been Darwin Smile To be fair it started as a jokey bump name, but by the time I had her it had really grown on me!

I like it, nice and different but not odd.

I met a baby Gulliver recently oyster :)

Yes, for a boy.

should guarantee a decent interest in science.

Belle9985 · 08/12/2015 22:34

I don't like it that much, but it would probably grow on me, if I knew someone with that name :)

I like Gulliver better I know you didn't ask.
As surname-forenames go, Darwin is alright.

Awful

Don't love it but don't hate it either.

DramaAlpaca · 08/12/2015 23:21

I don't mind it actually. I don't normally like surnamey names, but Darwin's OK.

I might be nuts but I associate it with being stupid, as well as with genetics obviously. The Darwin awards. People who took themselves out of the gene pool by dying as a result of their own stupidity.
I like Gulliver though.

Am I the only one who will say Gumball?

Other kids will love it because of the Gumball reference (a cartoon character for those not in the know).

I quite like it too.

Yes, my first thought was the Awards too....

My first thought was Gumball too.

Darwin's a great name though, love it.

I have a relative by this name and always find his name gets a bit of a funny reaction if his name comes up in conversation with people who don't know him! I think people that know him would not think the name was odd in any way because you just get used to a name on a person! Not my cup of tea, personally, but it's what you like that counts Smile

Are you from Shropshire? Popular (relatively) middle name there

I'm glad the response is mainly positive I'm going in for a c section on Friday and we just decided we hate the boys name we choose. I suggested Darwin again to dh and he said yeah its OK, let's ask mumsnet. Think we might go into theatre with a couple of names and if its a boy see which one fits.

It's easy to spell, say and masculine sounding. And it's not overused as so many other names... I'd go for it if you love it! Good luck.

I would assume you were German. It's popular there but pronounced 'dar-vin)

I would wonder if you were very interested in evolution.

I love it. I've never heard it used as a given name, but it's great! Go for it!

I am an ecologist so it does seem very right to me.
