Nicknames that rhyme (parent & child)

We're considering names for our first child, and so far our favourite for a boy is Benjamin. Doubtless this will get shortened to Ben. All well and good, except that I'm a Jennifer, who goes by Jen.

Jen & Ben.

Now that I've heard it, I can't unhear it, but it's been so hard coming up with a boy's name that we both agree on. I really don't want to go back to the drawing board, but I don't like Benny or Benji as nicknames either.

I suppose I could always introduce him as Benjamin, but my question is, how terrible is Jen & Ben as mother/son pairing? Is it twee & naff, or am I overthinking?

Honest opinions, please!

You're overthinking. I love the name.

I know Bethan and Gethin mum and son combo, you don't really notice after a bit.

Will be totally fine. If we had had a boy DH and DS would have been Ed and Fred.

I have a friend called Molly with a daughter Holly. It honestly didn't occur to me until her daughter was about three, then I found it amusing for about a day, and then I had forgotten again until this thread!

Thanks for all your responses. Glad to hear of some real life examples, and that they turned out fine. Smile

I actually know a Jen and Ben combo; I think she intended on him being Benjamin but that didn't stick for long. Don't think anyone's ever said anything about it (DH didn't even notice until I pointed it out).

What if it's rhyming siblings? Bad idea or still ok?

Me and my dd don't rhyme but the shortened versions of our names are very similar. It didn't even occur to me until she was a few months old, then I just thought it was quite funny. Nobody has ever commented on it but people often get out names mixed up. Less of a problem if you're having a boy I guess Xmas Grin
