Really stumped for girls names. DH only likes twee names like Primrose & Polly (which I hate).

Is loveday a bit much?
Any suggestions welcome.

PuppyMonkey Thu 03-Dec-15 18:36:48

Oh dear yes I think it is very a bit much - sorry.

rubybloom2 Thu 03-Dec-15 19:04:10

I love it and it was a strong contender for us, to be named after DH's late paternal grandma.

Did you know it is Cornish?

It's beautiful and unique. The only reason we discounted it was because the family connection meant there had already been a Loveday with our surname, so it didn't feel original enough.

Spidertracker Thu 03-Dec-15 19:06:48

I think I like it.
Is it pronounced Love Day or another way?

LineyReborn Thu 03-Dec-15 19:08:58

I prefer Lorelei.

GastonsChestHair Thu 03-Dec-15 19:11:57

I like Loveday. Suggested it to husband, he wasn't having any of it.

doceodocere Thu 03-Dec-15 19:44:50

I like the traditional meaning but yes it is a bit much for everyday use.

FoxesSitOnBoxes Thu 03-Dec-15 19:45:50

Bit much. Good middle name though?

sarahquilt Thu 03-Dec-15 20:12:33

I like it. It's very cool. Much more interesting than Primrose and Polly.

How about Lowenna

annandale Thu 03-Dec-15 21:20:33

I like it too.

Maxine? Kerensa?

lovelychops Thu 03-Dec-15 21:32:14

Good god in heaven - no.

PunkAssMoFo Thu 03-Dec-15 21:34:07

50/50 response is good enough for me- just don't know if it's the one. Have no Cornish roots, just like it. Worth putting forward to DH though.

I like lorelei, but it's not quite right. Not so keen on the other suggestions.

SirNiallDementia Thu 03-Dec-15 21:50:11

I really don't like Loveday, sounds very prissy to me, sorry.

Some other Cornish ideas:

I really like Kerensa and Lowenna as well.

Names your husband might like:

Pardon the pun bit I love the name Loveday. If you feel a bit wobbly about using it as a first name then use it as a middle name.
Polly is a lovely name but don't like Primrose as it makes me think of Harold Shipman as Primose is his wife's name.

IoraRua Thu 03-Dec-15 21:55:14

I agree, it sounds a bit prissy. It's a no from me.

Artfooldodger Thu 03-Dec-15 22:00:19

Always wanted to use this name if our ds had turned out to be a dd. Beautiful name, and not over used.

YakTriangle Thu 03-Dec-15 22:04:05

I can't get past the way it sounds like a code for a pre arranged shag.

LadyMaryofDownt0n Thu 03-Dec-15 22:11:03

Emm not been am afraid & I usually like names which are different.

Personally I like Primrose smile

Themodernuriahheep Thu 03-Dec-15 22:21:07

Loveday Minette in A Little White Horse.

At first sight it's twee but now I've said it several times, it's grown on me. I can see myself or a teacher calling it out without ever thinking twice.

After all, in Zimbabwe Lovemore and Muchblessings are usual.

Go for it.

I much prefer it to Primrose.

PunkAssMoFo Thu 03-Dec-15 22:25:39

Sirniall you're right, DH would love that list. Unfortunately, I hate it!

Heard in the last hour of friend giving birth to a Tamsin, so that's out. Not really looking for Cornish name in particular, but do want something a bit interesting...

Sophronia Thu 03-Dec-15 23:25:14

I like it! Think I prefer it as a middle name though. I know an Amelia Loveday.

CuffsAndCollar Thu 03-Dec-15 23:27:20

I love it. Reminds me of Loveday in Coming Home.

grumpypenguin Fri 18-Dec-15 13:52:37

Loveday is much more twee than Polly...

MrsCaecilius Fri 18-Dec-15 14:29:18

Love it, love it, love it! One of my favourite names.

How about Lamorna, Carenza, Cecelia, Araminta, Rosina, Rosanna, Honor?
