DH has just decided this is his new favourite girls name. Any thoughts?

RiverTam Tue 24-Nov-15 20:59:04

My first thought was that it's a boy's name.

It's OK. Doesn't really float my boat but it's alright.

Lweji Tue 24-Nov-15 20:59:29

It doesn't sound too bad, actually, but I hope your surname is not Davidson. grin

Still, it evokes the motorbikes and Harley Street, so, I wouldn't

SomedayMyPrinceWillCome Tue 24-Nov-15 21:00:37

The only Harley I know is a boy

LilacSpunkMonkey Tue 24-Nov-15 21:04:00

It's a boys name.

I've met a few. All boys.

Oh, and a dog.

AuntieStella Tue 24-Nov-15 21:06:09

Of course, that might be exactly the association DH wants.

Amazemedontbeacunt Tue 24-Nov-15 21:07:41

I've only ever known girls called Harley, I like it smile

hawaiibaby Tue 24-Nov-15 21:29:18

I'm not keen at all. Not keen on it as a boys name let alone a girls. There are SO many lovely girls names - Harley isn't one of them!

GothJoose Tue 24-Nov-15 21:30:25

I've just posted on your other op.

I know a male and female Harley but statistically it's more popular for boys

GothJoose Tue 24-Nov-15 21:32:16

45th most popular boys name in 2014

ExasperatedAlmostAlways Tue 24-Nov-15 21:32:47

My son is Harley.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways Tue 24-Nov-15 21:34:21

What about halle/halli? for a girl?

vestandknickers Tue 24-Nov-15 21:34:44

I think it's awful, but I hate all made up/surname type names.

BabCNesbitt Tue 24-Nov-15 21:42:43

If you were in the US, it'd be fine. Here it just sounds a bit naff.

ThisWillSoOutMe Tue 24-Nov-15 21:44:09

My cat is called Harley. Harley is a boy cat.

Jw35 Tue 24-Nov-15 21:48:32

I know someone called Harley she's married to my cousin. She's a bit punky and loud.

I love motorbikes but I prefer more traditional names myself

Sophronia Tue 24-Nov-15 22:19:49

I know a female Harleigh and a male Harley-Ray. Don't like it.

Tartyflette Tue 24-Nov-15 22:28:07

And hope your surname isn't Quinn, either. ....and for a girl it will continually be confused with/misspelt Hayley.

Roomba Tue 24-Nov-15 22:34:53

It's nice, but I do see it as a boy's name.

TBH the only Harley I know is a black labrador, so I see it even more as a dog's name - sorry!

pieceofpurplesky Tue 24-Nov-15 22:43:38

It's great for a boy. I have taught a few and all have been quite cool and quirky. But all boys

manicinsomniac Tue 24-Nov-15 22:51:23

I think it's unisex.

I like it. I guess you could spell it Harleigh to avoid gender confusion but it looks a bit awkward like that

PaulAnkaTheDog Wed 25-Nov-15 09:46:55

Let me guess, Quinn as a middle name? It's a boys name to me, only ever heard of the DC character as an instance of it being female.

strawberryandaflake Wed 25-Nov-15 14:54:36

No. Just no.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Wed 25-Nov-15 14:57:08

It's a boys name. And no. For a boy or girl.

Lozza1990 Wed 25-Nov-15 14:56:47

I like it as a boys name but not girls! DS would have been Harley but my cousin beat me to it.
