I prefer Alfie but I really dislike Dylan. Knew a few when I worked in a school so it may be just my associations of the name, rather than the name itself. I think Louis Ethan sort of runs into each other, if that makes sense (in my accent anyway). Hope that helps in some way.x

Realise this is probably not what you want to hear but as an 'official name' (what appears on the birth cert.) I'd go Alfred Dylan, but use Alfie as an everyday name.
Louie is a name in it's own right.
I'm just not a fan of shortened names as 'official' names as I know several people given "cute" names which were fine when under 5, but now they're late teens/early 20's hate their names.

I really don't like Alfred :( I would much rather go with just Alfie :)

Louie by a mile.

Although Louis is a much much much nicer spelling.

The problem I have with Louis, is the fact that some people have that name and do actually pronounce it Lewis and everyone who spells it Louie, pronounces it how I would like!

Louie Ethan for me Smile

Louie Ethan, but I really would go with Louis.

Alfie is lovely when he's three but not when he's a thirty year old barrister. Dylan is nice.
I think most people would pronounce Louis in the correct way so you should spell it correctly to avoid your son having to do so forever.
Ethan is fine but I don't think it runs nicely with Louie. The two e's are separate and choppy.

Actually, Louie is currently more popular than Louis...

Louie, but prefer Louis.

I'd vote Alfie Dylan, although I think Dylan Alfie flows better.

I definitely dislike Alfie as a given name, it's a bit too cutesy imo. I would use Alfred.
Louie...marginally better but still not mad on it.

Louis.

I dislike Alfie very strongly.

Louie is written right in front of you! You still wrote Louis - I wish people would write the name picked, rather than what they would rather!

OP please reconsider the spelling of Louis. It looks so much nicer. Most people get it right. He may have to correct it once or twice, but it wouldn't be a huge problem.

its a bit like Luke/Luc. Just using a different spelling for no reason.

IoraRua · 19/11/2015 19:35

I do agree, Louis is much better. It wouldn't be a name I'd pick but a definite improvement imo.

Louie is actually higher, in the top 100, than Louis - there's a reason for that...

Ok, if that's the case, convince yourself.

What do you mean convince myself?

I think Louie looks dreadful op. Sorry. And no matter what the place in the top 100 is, I'll still think that.

You cannot control the opinions you get on here. But you go for the name, if you like it.

Alfie Dylan, or even better Dylan Alfie.

Report
Sophronia · 19/11/2015 20:30

Louie is only one place higher than Louis in the 2014 top 100 (Louie #67 and Louis #68), so hardly a significant difference in popularity.

Report
ktmummy1 · 19/11/2015 20:44

OP go with whatever spelling you're comfortable with. I think Louie is perfectly acceptable.
