Friend copying baby name...

Hello - so, I'm not sure if anyone who reads this also read my other threat, but I gave birth to a little boy this morning - Archie Matthew and I have met many mums-to-be at various classes. Once I announced the birth, one of my friends messages me and says "oh my gosh, I can't believe it - Archie Matthew is the name I want to call my son" which I find hard to believe as she was pretty set on Eduardo Philip and they seem kinda different names to me and it's a bit of a coincidence! Sorry, it's just a little frustrating! Has anyone been in the same boat?

Thanks everyone! They really are! I don't want to put him down :( some people have been saying that I should though, otherwise they become too needy, but I highly doubt I'll be listening to that advise - my son does need meee!

It doesn't matter. And it may well be a genuine coincidence. Archie is a lovely name but hardly unique - I know 3 babies called Archie. And she was courteous enough to give you a heads up. Even if she did 'copy' you, so what really? Don't sweat the small stuff.

Who's telling you to put him down? Ignore them. You can't spoil a tiny baby.

I wouldn't be shocked if she told me she was naming him Archie, but Eduardo Philip to Archie Matthew in a few hours after my Archie was born? Hmm and I wouldn't care that much, but she lives so close to me too and they'd be the same age, most likely same school and class and that's just annoying, but you're right, it's a small thing - was just thinking about it

'some people have been saying that I should though, otherwise they become too needy'

Are these people Victorians?

Glad you're ignoring them Smile

Lol, I think it's absolutely adorable that he wants to just sit and give me cuddles and I wouldn't give that up for anything! I have no idea what I'll do when having a bath tonight - I guess he'll just have to have Daddy, but not a fan of sharing him, but guess I'll have to get use to that! He's 50% him after all Wink

Perhaps she never was going to call her son Eduardo Philip and that was just to cover up her real choice of name which you've accidentally 'outed'.

But lovely name which you both are entitled to use, now go enjoy your lovely newborn.

No, think of friends, when Rachel was about to have her baby and she asked Monica what her favourite name was - she insisted she wouldn't use it. Once she heard it, she wanted it. That's what's happened to your friend!

Don't worry about other children having the same name. At my daughter's first baby group there were only three girls in the group and each of them had the same name. It won't matter to you at all.

She is only saying that to ruin the best day of your life. She probably won't call him Archie Matthew. So stop letting her ruin your day and enjoy your son x

Tell her you've changed your mind and you're going to register him as Eduardo Phillip.

So you gave birth this morning and have found the time to make your announcements and start a few threads on MN about it?

If this is true your friend is a cunt.

Well I stand by my earlier statement about your 'friend' being a cunt.

What an awful thing to do to someone on the day they welcome their child into the world.

You replied to a post yesterday, before your son was born, where the OP (NO987) had asked for people's views on whether to name her son Archie Matthew or Archie William.

You voted Archie Matthew... then named your baby Archie Matthew today.

Who's copying who?! Confused
