Would it be weird to change my baby's name?

Just that really. She is 10mo. Her name is not a shortened name like Lottie or Tilly or anything. It's a name in its own right like Rose or Grace. If it was Rose, would it be weird to change it to Rosalie for example? I know it's quite late to change her name but people could still call her 'Rose' for short... Thoughts?

No, I don't think it's weird.

I sometimes wished I called my Toby 'Tobias'.. I wished I went more formal then everyone who knows him calls him Toby.. But formally and when he's older, I wish I gave him the option.

I wouldn't change it now though now.. It's done.

No. Do it now because it can be don't through the registry office (before a year) so will be on birth certificate

Giving her the choice is important to me too partybugs. We initially thought it was a good thing her name couldn't be shortened but in hindsight I think that was a mistake.

I had this debate myself, my DD2's name still doesn't feel like her name iykwim - everyone assured me that it would be fine to change and everyone would just get used to it + shed never know any difference anyways. Also if the nn is the same then you wouldn't even have to explain it to majority of people as (if your ok with the nn) they'd still call her the same regardless!
If you are going too, do it before she's 1 so you can just re-register - but i don't think anyone will find it odd :)

I'd change it if you really want to before she's a year, no one will really notice anyway if you still plan on using her name daily anyway.

Thanks all. Just the small matter of convincing DH... Have messaged him to warn him I want to discuss tonight. Wish me luck!

Yes- I think do it, you'll be happier and she still has all the options. Win win!

If it's a form of her name, as I think you were saying, and you're not changing from, for example, Alice to Electra, then that might be ok.

Reuset, yes it is kind of a form of her name, but her current name is a name on its own. So similar to Rose and Rosalie, Ellie and Elspeth or Harry and Harrison. They are different names though so not like Lottie and Charlotte or Liz and Elizabeth (which I would consider to be the same names just one version is shortened). Maybe those two categories are just me being strange though... Might be the same difference to lots of people. Hope I'm making sense!
