I have been watching an interview with Gigi Hadid this evening.

This has got me thinking - what could Gigi be short for? I think it's cute!

Hadid's name is very much a nickname - her birth name is Jelena - but does anybody have any legitimate options?

Gigi of the Colette book / musical film fame was Gilberte - not sure I'd use it personally.

Didn't know of the book though, how interesting!

Gigi was what Yolanda Foster ( her mother ) was called as a child and Yolanda passed it down to her daughter .. So it was originally Yolandas nickname

We call my cousin Georgia, Gigi a lot. It started from when she was a baby and couldn't say her name so she called herself Gigi and its just stuck.

Is it pronounced Jiggy? I taught a Gigi pn Jiggy who was a Georgina. But she was only called that because the class also had Georgina, Georgia, Georgie and Genie so we were rapidly running out of options!!

manic, it's usually pronounced 'zhee-zhee' (or like Zsazsa with an 'ee' sound instead of an 'ah' sound).
