Rory

We had pretty much settled on the name Rory for a boy, but now I'm having a wobble.

Our other DC have popular names - one trendy and one classic. We want something a little less popular for DC3 and one that is not about to rocket in popularity. I don't actually know any little Rorys but I've read on here that it's getting quite popular now.

Do you know lots of Rorys?...and would you consider it a fairly classic name?

Love it, don't know any. I don't know that it's a classic name, I'd more say its an... established name?

Thanks Spanish. Think I agree with you. Established is good, just want to avoid trendy.

Middle name would be James by the way.

I have a 12 year old Rory. He's the only one we know. He bloody hates that racing car, though.

I like it, Laurie is similar n nice too but not gaining in popularity like Rory Smile .

I think Rory is an excellent name. I wouldn't call it classic exactly, but it is well established without being stuffy - I think it would fit in well with both classic and trendier names in the family.

Yes that annoying theme tune. Haven't noticed it on tv for a while though so hopefully it's disappeared.

Oh, cross post - would just like to add that I think Rory James is a very nice combination.

Yes Silver - really like Laurie too! It's actually next down on our list. Only prob is DH has uncle Laurence/Larry and maybe it's a bit close to that.

Quite common in Scotland, I know a few. But good, strong name though I love it!

Thanks Woodlouse. Rory James just feels right. I don't want to be wobbling about it.

All positive comments so far.

Noticed on darker green names thingy it's been hovering around the 100 mark for about a decade. It's suddenly jumped up on todays ONS list though.

Yes I'm over-thinking.

I know 5 who have got different variations in the spelling of Rory. They are between 2 and 18.

Personally I prefer Rhuaridh to Rory

I would agree it is an established name. I suspect it will rise a bit more but not likely to hit the 20's ever.

Great name. Know Rorys of all different ages, but not overly popular.

Thanks, these comments have made me feel much better. Only a couple of weeks until scan when we will find out if we have a Rory or a Rosa.

I've got a Rory and I don't know any others. Lots of people have said what a lovely name it is & they don't know any others. He was very nearly Rufus until about a week before he arrived & Rory was only decided on the way to hospital to be induced!

Ruari James is lovely if you fancy an alternative spelling!

Ruairidh (and the many Gaelic various spellings) is not pronounced the same as Rory. It's more Roor-ree.

LOVE the name Rory and have done since having a bit of a crush on a character in an old cartoon strip (possibly from one of my mum's circa 1960 girls' mags!) but DH isn't keen so it's off the list for us. I think Rory James is a gorgeous name. Rosa is lovely too Smile
