What do you think about name Hugo? smile

Olddear Fri 14-Aug-15 15:13:39

I love it!

SuburbanRhonda Fri 14-Aug-15 15:14:44

Yes, I like it too.

Posh, but nice smile

ShadowStar Fri 14-Aug-15 15:14:47

Not terribly keen, but I'm not really sure why. I prefer Hugh.

momb Fri 14-Aug-15 15:16:39

Hugo is lovely.

We have friends with a Hugh who call him Hugo anyway :-)

We have different friends with a Hugh who was called Shug so they moved house and told everyone his name was Hugo so he didn't get the same nickname!

Can't really warm to it, I know one under 5, it hasn't grown on me. I think of it as a wild posh name as well. Funny enough I know 2 Hughs - that name has grown on me.

TremoloGreen Fri 14-Aug-15 21:24:49

Prefer Hugh. Hugo is v popular at the moment though, so obviously a lot of people like it.

Strokethefurrywall Fri 14-Aug-15 21:34:21

I wish I could like it but I don't really. Same as Hugh. And Rupert. And Cuthbert. I hear the names, I think 'posh toff' and I used to encounter a lot of them on way to school so it makes me roll my eyes.

I imagine them all to look like this. But I do know a 2 year old Hugo and a 1 year old Hugo and they're both very cute, I just can't break the negative connotation.

SmugairleRoin Fri 14-Aug-15 23:26:32

Meh. I'm ok with it.

I do think it sounds posh but then so do many other (worse imo) names that are currently in !

VixxFace Fri 14-Aug-15 23:38:07

Awful

scarletforya Fri 14-Aug-15 23:42:38

Not good. Hugo, Jeremy, Rupert etc. To much of a stereotype.

They just scream 'beat me, I'm a wet toff'

NotAllThoseWhoWanderAreLost Fri 14-Aug-15 23:57:02

I also think of the red-trousered toff/Old Etonian investment wbanker stereotype with this name, ditto the likes of Rupert, Felix, Cosmo, Quentin etc. If you're not actually of that ilk then it comes across like you're aspiring to it.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 15-Aug-15 01:51:03

I really like it but for reasons I can't explain it makes me think of a French Bulldog confused.

Probably best to disregard that last part of that sentence really.

HuftysTrain Sat 15-Aug-15 21:48:45

I really like Hugo. It starts with a hug.

Monica101 Sat 15-Aug-15 22:47:29

I like it. It's a friendly name, Hugh is also a nice short form.

Buttwing Sat 15-Aug-15 22:53:24

I love it. It was a contender for ds2.

pati6b Mon 17-Aug-15 10:58:04

Thank you so much for that.

Why some of you say it sounds 'posh' where that association came from? shock

SmugairleRoin Mon 17-Aug-15 13:20:48

Because it just does sound posh to my ear. Just as Betty, Edna, Philomena all sound like little old ladies who like to knit.

Hugo, Jasper, Cuthbert, Quentin, Reuben etc are all posh private school boys who have polo ponies and ski a million times a year, in my imagination.

Cookie122 Mon 17-Aug-15 13:33:49

sorry dont like it too posh
