I wouldn't use 'Niamh'. But wondering if Neva just looks like a 'misunderstanding' of Niamh?? Neva is apparent Spanish, meaning 'white snow', which might be a nice option for my winter baby smile

Like never but with an ah, nev ah.

Wishful80smontage Mon 10-Aug-15 09:39:59

I thought it would have been Nevah

I would assume it was from a parent who liked Niamh but decided to mess about and Anglicise it. I wouldn't know whether it was likely to be pronounced as 'Neeva' or 'Nayva'.

Littlefish Mon 10-Aug-15 09:42:43

A bit like "never", but with less of an "er"

Thurlow Mon 10-Aug-15 09:43:09

Nee-vah. I wouldn't think that it had anything to do with Niamh though.

HeyDuggee Mon 10-Aug-15 09:43:17

Like a bad imitation of a new Jersey Mafia guy sayin' never.

There is a youtube of the correct Spanish pronounciation

thehogopogo Mon 10-Aug-15 09:44:37

I would say Nee-va. Made me think of Eva.

Binit Mon 10-Aug-15 10:59:33

Nee va

I would personally go for Neve as the pronunciation is a bit more obvious.

SueDunome Mon 10-Aug-15 11:03:30

Nay-ba as in Spanish a v is pronounced as a b

AuntieUrsula Mon 10-Aug-15 12:27:45

Nay-va like the river in St Petersburg

DoloresLandingham Mon 10-Aug-15 14:22:59

Niamh is pronounced 'neev' - I think it's pretty well-known in the UK.

Nannyplum2029 Mon 10-Aug-15 14:36:58

GherkinMuncher Mon 10-Aug-15 14:52:28

Instant response was Nev-ah. Like 'neva gonna give you up, neva gonna let you down...'
