It sounds like IRA

VixxFace Fri 07-Aug-15 20:00:18

I liked it until pp said IRA

emmalouise90 Fri 07-Aug-15 20:32:21

What is ira? It's pronounced eye la what's ira got in common with that?

SaulGood Fri 07-Aug-15 20:34:55

No, it sounds like IRA, the abbreviation of the Irish Republican Army.

I know a child with that as her full name as Rae is her surname.
It always sounds like a double first name if her whole name is used.

emmalouise90 Fri 07-Aug-15 20:39:42

The Rae is because Raymond is a family name passed down so is the girly version as to why it would just be a middle name

emmalouise90 Fri 07-Aug-15 20:41:26

I don't see how people would associate the name Isla with the ira is it just small minded people?:/ I've never heard anyone associate the name with it sad

SaulGood Fri 07-Aug-15 20:43:02

Not the name Isla on its own. The previous poster was commenting that Isla Rae sounds like IRA.

I know an Isla White.

emmalouise90 Fri 07-Aug-15 20:44:21

That sounds like the Isle of white :/ maybe I should consider a name in front like Isla poppy Rae etc

mydogeatsnutstoo Fri 07-Aug-15 20:44:42

Isla is extremely popular at the moment so she is likely to be one of several at any groups/ nursery.

I think Rae sounds a bit unfinished personally but the sentiment is nice, I don't think there are any major issues with it.

diploddycus Fri 07-Aug-15 20:44:43

I love Isla but I do agree that with Rae it sounds a bit like IRA.

MuttonCadet Fri 07-Aug-15 20:45:06

No it's not "small minded people", it does sound like that, but how often would you be using both her first and second name?

If she'll be known by just her first name it's fine, if you are planning a double barrelled it's not great.

BootsTheCat Fri 07-Aug-15 20:47:08

Isla is a lovely name. I'm not keen on Rae personally but I get your reasons for choosing it.

Now someone has said IRA I agree it does sound like that.

I'd keep Isla but choose a different middle name but as its a family name I'm not sure if you'd want to

What about Isla Something Rae?

Only1scoop Fri 07-Aug-15 20:48:04

Because it rolls off and sounds like the spoken 'IRA'

Quite like Isla but not Rae

Although if it's just a middle name that won't be used it's not that crucial.

CherryBonBon Fri 07-Aug-15 20:48:22

I don't mind Rae. It has a retro feel that pleases me.

I really dislike Isla though not least because of it's popularity. I know 7 Islas under 5.

emmalouise90 Fri 07-Aug-15 20:49:08

Yeah that's what I thought like Isla Poppy Rae ? I don't think we really found another name the flowed nice with Rae apart from Isla but I don't want people to hear it and think that x

diploddycus Fri 07-Aug-15 20:49:35

Yes a second middle name would be nice, Poppy sounds cute.

Only1scoop Fri 07-Aug-15 20:50:15

3 Islas in dd little school very popular....

I don't think any poster has displayed they are 'small minded'

Rather the opposite

BootsTheCat Fri 07-Aug-15 20:50:52

If the Raymond bit is important what about Raegan as a first name? (If Isla being a popular name at the moment matters to you, it would to me but everyone has different priorities)

Although I didn't know Isla was popular so I must be out of touch.

I do love Isla though so it's a shame to lose it.

VaviaVive Fri 07-Aug-15 20:52:44

Sounds chavvy

BlueBananas Fri 07-Aug-15 20:52:49

Really dislike it
Isla Rae seems to be the new Lily May

BootsTheCat Fri 07-Aug-15 20:53:27

Isla Poppy Rae flows really nicely, if you're not bothered about the popularity of Isla then I'd go for it.

Only1scoop Fri 07-Aug-15 20:54:10

Isla poppy Rae
Sounds tastique
