I'm in love with it. Slightly worried that it's my hormones though. My DH really likes it too.
Is it too unusual? I know there are still strong connotations with "the Bear" in my parents generation but I don't really think of that.

It's a fine name. I'd use it for sure.

The bear, I agree with you, but it's a positive association in any case.

roseteapot101 Thu 06-Aug-15 15:12:25

i think its a lovely name i think the connection to the bear is becoming more distant so should be fine

lillipad21 Thu 06-Aug-15 15:23:19

Its a lovely name smilei agree i think the bear connotations are becoming more distant... When i hear Rupert i immediately think of Rupert Grint from Harry Potter, i dont know if that is helpful or not blush

queentroutoftroutss Thu 06-Aug-15 15:43:06

I don't like it.

Rosieliveson Thu 06-Aug-15 16:11:48

Yes, Rupert Grint was the first person I thought of (after the bear) too. It doesn't seem to have done him any harm!

Rosieliveson Thu 06-Aug-15 16:12:28

Queen, is there something in particular you don't like (that I might not have thought of) or is it just not to your taste?

BeautifulBatman Thu 06-Aug-15 16:15:25

I think it's delightful. smile

zarzu Thu 06-Aug-15 16:15:39

I think it's a lovely name. Might have to add it to my list hehe

00roversreturn00 Thu 06-Aug-15 16:16:23

Love it, expecting DD but if it had been DS, Rupert would have been top of my list.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs Thu 06-Aug-15 16:19:38

Rupert Giles from Buffy. Marvellous link.

Rosieliveson Thu 06-Aug-15 16:24:10

I like Buffy too Empress. I might have gone for Angel of DH hadn't vetoed it and the majority of my thoughts about that Angel weren't a bit naughty

Sophronia Thu 06-Aug-15 16:30:16

I quite like it.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs Thu 06-Aug-15 16:32:24

Rosie grin.

I'd definitely use Rupert then!

Angelto5 Thu 06-Aug-15 16:32:38

I also instantly think of Giles from Buffy smile

My ds is named after a Buffy character grin

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs Thu 06-Aug-15 16:36:17

Xander? Spike? Angel?

pinkje Thu 06-Aug-15 16:40:03

Rupert the Bear is what I think of.

Angelto5 Thu 06-Aug-15 17:49:42

yes one of those empress wink

QforCucumber Thu 06-Aug-15 17:55:31

I like it but couldn't use it personally as a friends spaniel is called it and I'd just think of him haha

CrystalMcPistol Thu 06-Aug-15 17:55:46

I don't like it. I'd feel very self conscious calling loudly after a Rupert in public.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Thu 06-Aug-15 17:57:02

I really like it. Simple, rare, with a lovely sound to it

Dreya Thu 06-Aug-15 21:51:51

I love Rupert. I knew a Rupert growing up. Lovely name. Go for it OP. What are the nn's for Rupert? Roo? Cute.

GreenbackBoogie Thu 06-Aug-15 21:54:27

I wanted a Rupert nn Roo. DH said absolutely not that it would lead to a lifetime of bullying. I disagree and still love it although we did not use it.

marinacortina Thu 06-Aug-15 22:39:41

Rupert Everett.
Rupert Penry Jones.
Rupert Graves.

Plenty of cool namesakes there. Love it.

caravanista13 Thu 06-Aug-15 22:50:16

Oh dear - just me who hates it then. Rupert the bear is fine but otherwise it just conjures up upper class twits.
