Sorry but Tate is either Tate Modern or Po-Tate-o to me

It's the name my friends daughter is still known by in.our family as my daughter couldn't say "Kate"! My DD is now 21 & "Tate" is nearly 30!

I imagine someone hot being called Tate, like a celeb. I was keen on it for ds1 too

A unisex name to me but I don't have a strong feel for it either way. I don't dislike it but it doesn't have much of a cultural history as a name - unless you count Tate & Lyle Smile

I don't like it at all, but it seems to have a pocket of likers on here, and the name has come up a few times recently

Nathaniel (Nate) is a nice alternative.

I'm reading 'Prep' at the moment and everyone is called Hunter or Gates or something. Not a fan of the surname for first name but, at least, they give no indication of gender - which might be a good thing.

Oh I loved Prep! What was the guy she fancied called, Crossley or something ridiculous like that?

Report
SwedishEdith · 04/08/2015 23:04

Cross. Cross Sugarman Grin

Report
squoosh · 04/08/2015 23:12

Cross that's it! And there's a girl called Aspeth.

Beautiful name written down and I absolutely love it but spoken it sounds like somebody who cant pronounce their C's/K's.

I imagine if a child went home and told their parents about their friend 'Tate' - the parent would probably assume/correct them with 'Kate'

Could you use Nathaniel and have Tate as a nickname?

Report
MythicalKings · 06/08/2015 12:41

No, no, no.

Unless you are American, they like weird names.

With a brother called Lyle? Sorry, I'd smile politely if introduced but not my taste. But then I have weird boys names, I just don't care what anyone thinks so I'm being a hypocrite.

I like Tate, but I would always think of the film Little Man Tate with the child genius.
