Sorry but Tate is either Tate Modern or Po-Tate-o to me

Wolfiefan Tue 04-Aug-15 18:06:05

YY to Tate Modern!
No to name for a boy.

I think of potatoes, sorry!

turdfairynomore Tue 04-Aug-15 18:23:46

It's the name my friends daughter is still known by in.our family as my daughter couldn't say "Kate"! My DD is now 21 & "Tate" is nearly 30!

Fugghetaboutit Tue 04-Aug-15 18:27:31

I imagine someone hot being called Tate, like a celeb. I was keen on it for ds1 too

heylilbunny Tue 04-Aug-15 18:48:06

A unisex name to me but I don't have a strong feel for it either way. I don't dislike it but it doesn't have much of a cultural history as a name - unless you count Tate & Lyle smile

VixxFace Tue 04-Aug-15 19:12:15

I love the name Tate.

Alyx80 Tue 04-Aug-15 20:51:48

Like a potato grin Hot potato! <waits to be ousted from thread for terrible joke> Sorry Fugg

I don't like it at all, but it seems to have a pocket of likers on here, and the name has come up a few times recently

Ankleswingers Tue 04-Aug-15 21:07:49

Don't like it at all. Sorry.

silverglitterpisser Tue 04-Aug-15 21:19:52

Really like it. Wade is nice as well.

Didactylos Tue 04-Aug-15 21:45:32

only if they have a twin called Lyle....

barbecue Tue 04-Aug-15 22:45:29

Nathaniel (Nate) is a nice alternative.

SwedishEdith Tue 04-Aug-15 22:51:48

I'm reading 'Prep' at the moment and everyone is called Hunter or Gates or something. Not a fan of the surname for first name but, at least, they give no indication of gender - which might be a good thing.

squoosh Tue 04-Aug-15 22:59:28

Oh I loved Prep! What was the guy she fancied called, Crossley or something ridiculous like that?

SwedishEdith Tue 04-Aug-15 23:04:01

Cross. Cross Sugarman grin

squoosh Tue 04-Aug-15 23:12:15

Cross that's it! And there's a girl called Aspeth.

squoosh Tue 04-Aug-15 23:12:39

Sorry for the derail OP, I quite like Tate!

lastqueenofscotland Tue 04-Aug-15 23:45:14

I thought if the gallery too, I like Nate though

Beautiful name written down and I absolutely love it but spoken it sounds like somebody who cant pronounce their C's/K's.

I imagine if a child went home and told their parents about their friend 'Tate' - the parent would probably assume/correct them with 'Kate'

CruCru Thu 06-Aug-15 12:28:52

Could you use Nathaniel and have Tate as a nickname?

MythicalKings Thu 06-Aug-15 12:41:55

No, no, no.

Unless you are American, they like weird names.

Whatabout Thu 06-Aug-15 12:44:53

With a brother called Lyle? Sorry, I'd smile politely if introduced but not my taste. But then I have weird boys names, I just don't care what anyone thinks so I'm being a hypocrite.

I like Tate, but I would always think of the film Little Man Tate with the child genius.
