Dd1 is due in september. Have 2 boys already. Finn and Rory
Always loved Clara, but DH is saying it's quite a common name now?
Any other ideas welcome.
Names I like are:

I dint know of any but it gets quite a lot of mentions on the baby names threads. I really don't like it myself.

Astrid maybe.

Never heard of a British Clara, though I know a couple of German ones.

Phantomteadrinker Fri 24-Jul-15 19:36:09

I have a baby Clara. Never met any others and always get told how unusual (and lovely) it is. smile

wigglesrock Fri 24-Jul-15 19:50:59

They're lovely names. I know more children with names from your list than Claras. I don't know any Claras but know one or more of the others especially Anna and Rose. Has Clara maybe had a jump in where you live or maybe in your husbands work? My husband has known 4 baby Arthurs already this year in his work.

I think the 2014 baby names stats are due out soon , but in 2013 Clara wasn't in the top 100. It was 139th, with 381 babies called Clara in England in Wales that year. The top name was Amelia with 5570 babies. With that in mind, I don't think Clara is really all that common.

Incidentally, Finn was 116th with 511 and Rory was 96th with 652, so both at a similar sort of level to (although slightly more popular than) Clara. Well known, but not too common.

Of course, this may all have changed, but I don't think you will find that Clara is suddenly top 10.

Only Clara I know is mid 20s now. Great name.

I know 2, but they are geographically very far apart. I have seen it come up on the baby names thread a few times, but does not seem to be very common around here. Love the name myself.

I know at least one (mostly more) of all of your other names too, other than Connie, which I really like, but seems like it should be short for something?

Longdistance Fri 24-Jul-15 20:02:35

Less of the common thank you!

I know a Clara, she's late 30's <moves away from the mirror>

qumquat Fri 24-Jul-15 20:02:48

I think Clara is one of those names that comes up a lot on here but us actually not that common at all. I've met literally hundreds of babies this past year and have only come across one Clara. It was on my short list and I love it!

Mrsindecision Fri 24-Jul-15 20:25:55

I know a few Claras but it's certainly not a name I would consider "overused". I love Juliet though - the best of your list IMO.

Sorry should have said DH is a paediatrician and comes hears a lot of new baby names :-)
I also only know one Klara, prefer it spelt with a C.

squoosh Fri 24-Jul-15 21:35:05

Yes it's common on MN, not common in real life.

Like Persephone.

reuset Fri 24-Jul-15 21:45:44

Yes, it's on the rise but is outside the top 100. I'd say it will rise much further before it peaks.
Somebody was saying last week it will be the new Eliza in terms of popularity, though I'm embarrassed that I can't recall where Eliza is, but I think it must be well into the top 100

Only you c an decide if it's, or will be, too popular for you. It wouldn't bother me, personally

consuleo Sat 25-Jul-15 11:41:36

I think Clara has become so much more popular because of Doctor Who.

consuleo Sat 25-Jul-15 11:45:31

Finn's not a very good example to compare to Clara as all the Finlays and Finleys are all known as Finn too. It's everywhere

ShadowStar Sat 25-Jul-15 11:48:45

I've never met a single Clara.

GlitzAndGigglesx Sat 25-Jul-15 11:55:16

I know a baby Clara and think it's lovely. I hadn't really heard it much before. I don't think you need to worry about there being loads in the same class

HighOverTheFenceLeapsSunnyJim Sat 25-Jul-15 13:12:57

I know of several and would expect it to rise. But it's hardly an Olivia or Amelia.

serislou Sat 25-Jul-15 13:31:21

I have a Rory who would have been Clara if he was a girl, definitely not common round our parts I've never met one. Our back up name was Imogen which seems to be another one that comes up on mumsnet but I never hear otherwise.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 25-Jul-15 15:06:27

I know one, she's early 30's, Spanish and one of those outrageously gorgeous, clever, successful people who is quite literally good at everything.

I don't know any others so that's what I imagine when I hear the name.

grin @ squoosh and "like Persephone". I know what you mean and agree, it's just funny seeing the two categorised together.

TwentiethCenturyGirl Sat 25-Jul-15 15:17:01

I've only ever met one and she's four. I really don't think it's that common. If you like it, use it.

ShadowStar Sat 25-Jul-15 15:42:54

I do know a handful of small Imogens.

FuckitFay Sat 25-Jul-15 16:26:00

I know two Claras and am not someone whose friends are having lots of babies. Quite popular I think at the moment for the middle classes

tadpole39 Sat 25-Jul-15 16:29:38

We have three claras in our road! Wide age range from 14 to baby. Se london.
