Keep coming back to this name for DD due in 2 weeks but would like opinions. Would use the 'EHZ-mae' pronunciation. Full name would be Esme Grace Sienesi (pronounced sea-nee-see). Grace is a family name so keeping in tradition. Her brother is Henry. Good match??

Was loving it and nodding until you mentioned Henry. Henry & Esme is a bit hard to say.

For Esme With Love and Squalor.

Love the name, wanted it for DD but was overruled. Plus love that book.

Someone did say that I should call it out with Henry to see. It's hard to match all out criteria!

mrsmeerkat Fri 24-Jul-15 09:10:57

love it, very elegant

Stepawayfromthezebras Fri 24-Jul-15 09:51:52

It's lovely

CakeRattleandRoll Fri 24-Jul-15 10:00:23

Love it. Would have been top of our list for DD, but family member had already used it. Lovely with Grace, and is fine with Henry. And prefer your pronunciation too.

Oh I love this name! Loved and esteemed. If I had a DD2 I would call her Esme

tubbytimmy Fri 24-Jul-15 10:07:30

I really like it. Especially with your surname.

cosmicglittergirl Fri 24-Jul-15 10:09:01

It's a lovely name.

sweetpeame Fri 24-Jul-15 10:22:10

I really like the name Esme. It sounds fine with Henry and in any case you won't say "Henry and Esme" that often.

applecatchers36 Fri 24-Jul-15 10:29:27

Fabulous name!

Treesandbees Fri 24-Jul-15 10:49:18

Thank you everyone!

Esme pronounced your way - nice.

Es-mee; really not.

Sparklingbrook Fri 24-Jul-15 10:54:43

I don't understand the sounding fine with other DC's names bit. confused Unless these children are going to come as a pair throughout their whole lives.

Esme is a lovely name.

Tiredemma Fri 24-Jul-15 10:55:34

I have an Esme (Esme Florence). I had originally intended to pronounce it Es-Mee but everyone pronounces it Es-Mae (even the nursery nurses which means DD now also refers to herself with it pronounced that way)

its a beautiful name- strangely 'popular' but still rare if that makes sense?

Benchmark Fri 24-Jul-15 16:30:34

This is one of my favourite girls names but the pronunciation problem really puts me off. I like the Ez-mee pronunciation far more than Ez-may but the latter seems to be the most popular.
Tiredemma - did the Ez-may pronunciation grow on you?

cece Fri 24-Jul-15 16:38:12

My Esme is 14 now. She does get a few people calling her the other pronunciation but she says she doesn't mind.

Heidi122 Fri 24-Jul-15 18:56:10

Love love love it!

musicinspring1 Fri 24-Jul-15 19:10:43

I have a baby Esme so be warned that it will become very popular....I seem to pick names that then become popular.. I had one of the very first Amelies years ago.... and now this is the second or third Esme thread I've read recently. shock wink grin grin

soundsystem Fri 24-Jul-15 19:22:42

I really like it. I know several Esme's under two - it does seem to be popular if that's an issue.

PuppyMonkey Fri 24-Jul-15 19:29:57

Meh I have an Esme pronounced Ezmee - ten times nicer than Ez-May IMHO.

soontobeanana Fri 24-Jul-15 19:33:39

love it but also think it will be very popular over the next couple of years. Have two friends who have just named their babies this.

BothEndsBurning Fri 24-Jul-15 19:34:41

Too many sibilants. With your surname, I would avoid any names with s and z sounds.

ch1134 Fri 24-Jul-15 19:41:00

I agree with pp about Esme Sienesi having too many 's' sounds. And I think sibling names do have to 'go'. Every time you're asked about your children you'll say their names together, sign cards... I still count myself as part of a sibling set even as an adult. Having said that, Henry and Esme is fine.
