What do you think of the name Jerry? For a boy.

AuntieStella Thu 23-Jul-15 09:46:16

Tom and... or Ben and .... ?

It's OK, but strikes me more as a nn than a stand-alone.

RoaryMouth Thu 23-Jul-15 09:48:18

He'd need a sibling then!

For Jeremy? Maybe. Not my cup of tea personally.

Though I know a female Gerry (short for nothing, just as it is) and I think it's more horrible for a girl.

Cynara Thu 23-Jul-15 10:01:21

I love Jerry for a girl. Not a boy though. For some reason it makes me think of lumberjack shirts and full beards when applied to a man. No idea why. Obviously that's just me though, so I'll stop my stream of consciousness there. As you were.

RoaryMouth Thu 23-Jul-15 10:16:01

Quite like the thought of a big, strapping lumberjack son!

sweetpeame Thu 23-Jul-15 10:18:52

No. It sounds like a name for a 50 year old builder rather than a baby or little boy (though of course your DS will be 50 one day and could be a builder). It's quite an ugly name IMO.

bridgetsmummy Thu 23-Jul-15 10:24:29

I like it, have some in my family.
I would use Jeremiah on birth certificate though

Sophronia Thu 23-Jul-15 11:23:43

Ok as a nn for Jeremy or Jeremiah

cantbelieveimonhere Thu 23-Jul-15 11:29:30

Unless you want him bullied over his name, please don't

BothEndsBurning Thu 23-Jul-15 11:44:52

It's fine, but only as a short form. Give him a proper name.

Spydra Thu 23-Jul-15 13:32:44

Yes for a Jeremy - love it. No on it's own, too cutesy.

villainousbroodmare Thu 23-Jul-15 13:37:00

I was on the Irish debating team with a very handsome Jerome.

RoaryMouth Thu 23-Jul-15 16:15:17

Gerard is nice but I like Jerry rather than Gerry.

Interesting one, I don't really know. Is Tom and Jerry a big thing these days? And surely all the Bens and Toms out there don't get teased?

I think I quite like it. Better than Gerry, which I can't bear personally.

Quasilulu Fri 24-Jul-15 02:53:17

Baffled as to why he'd be teased. Love Jerome shortened to Jerry but doesn't go with our surname so please use it instead!

swimmerforlife Fri 24-Jul-15 03:16:19

No, no, no. I love Jeremy though grin

MamaMotherMummy Fri 24-Jul-15 21:47:22

Love Jerry.

Jerome, Jethro (at a stretch), Jeremiah, even Gerald. ANYTHING but Jeremy.

YeOldeTrout Fri 24-Jul-15 21:53:33

My uncle Gerald is a Jerry.

lunalovegood84 Fri 24-Jul-15 22:17:36

I like Gerard and Gerry. Jerry seems too American.

PallasCat Fri 24-Jul-15 23:14:31

Nice. I know an adult Jerry, short for Jeremy, which I also like.

SwedishEdith Sat 25-Jul-15 00:03:25

Great name. Jerry definitely seems American but think I prefer the look of it.
