Reminds me of Baywatch!

Is that pronounced hob - ee or more like hoab - ee? Either way it doesn't really sound like a name to me, more of a nick name maybe.

You wouldn't, would you? Not really?

Not a real name, IMO. Sounds like "hobby" or "hubby/ie", or "hoagie"..

I saw Mary berrys grandson Hobie on her program at the weekend and have been wondering what it's short for since!

Id never use it tbh, sounds a bit silly

Sorry no, not for me. Sounds too mch like Hobby and even if pronounced like nooka says, virtually no one will say it correctly.

Is that Mary Berrys grandsons name? Saw that on the show the other day and thought wtf? Poncy sounding to me.

sweetpeame · 22/07/2015 08:10

Sounds awful, please don't use it!

Weird, I rarely look in this bit as 99% of the names make me wince and everyone else seems to wax lyrical over them.

But I love Hobie. Really. and I can't imagine how anyone half literate could mispronounce it.

Guess it's one of those Marmite names.

I just finished The Goldfinch yesterday...it's nice, but Hobie is short for Hobart, it's just a nickname to me.

No. People will constantly mishear it as Toby, child will be plagued!

BothEndsBurning · 22/07/2015 10:17

Is that short for Horrible?

Report
AmysTiara · 22/07/2015 10:19

Hobie for a boy? Good idea for boys, and girls, keeps them out of mischief during the school holidays. Wink The other pronunciation sounds like a pet name for hobo.

A good name it does not make.

I met a hobie in America and he is now deceased but he was the most amazing man and for that I love this name as has great memories for me.

I think it's a cute baby name but also really suited him as a man
