What do ppl think of this for a little boy?

HoldenCaulfield80 Wed 22-Jul-15 06:47:44

Reminds me of Baywatch!

nooka Wed 22-Jul-15 06:51:46

Is that pronounced hob - ee or more like hoab - ee? Either way it doesn't really sound like a name to me, more of a nick name maybe.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs Wed 22-Jul-15 06:58:07

You wouldn't, would you? Not really?

ToysRLuv Wed 22-Jul-15 06:58:53

Not a real name, IMO. Sounds like "hobby" or "hubby/ie", or "hoagie"..

MishMooshAndMogwai Wed 22-Jul-15 07:03:14

I saw Mary berrys grandson Hobie on her program at the weekend and have been wondering what it's short for since!

Id never use it tbh, sounds a bit silly

Bubblesinthesummer Wed 22-Jul-15 07:03:20

Sorry no, not for me. Sounds too mch like Hobby and even if pronounced like nooka says, virtually no one will say it correctly.

Seriouslyffs Wed 22-Jul-15 07:06:18

As I Hobie wan knobie?
Or Hobo?
Err. No.

TheEagle Wed 22-Jul-15 07:08:48

Yep all I can think of is Baywatch.

summerlovingliz Wed 22-Jul-15 07:13:26

No to Hobie

Gumnast2014 Wed 22-Jul-15 07:17:58

Love it from the goldfinch

maitaimojito Wed 22-Jul-15 07:23:25

I just think 'hobo', sorry.

Fugghetaboutit Wed 22-Jul-15 07:23:35

Is that Mary Berrys grandsons name? Saw that on the show the other day and thought wtf? Poncy sounding to me.

sweetpeame Wed 22-Jul-15 08:10:26

Sounds awful, please don't use it!

loveareadingthanks Wed 22-Jul-15 08:21:05

Weird, I rarely look in this bit as 99% of the names make me wince and everyone else seems to wax lyrical over them.

But I love Hobie. Really. and I can't imagine how anyone half literate could mispronounce it.

Guess it's one of those Marmite names.

marshmallowpies Wed 22-Jul-15 08:24:00

I just finished The Goldfinch's nice, but Hobie is short for Hobart, it's just a nickname to me.

UrethraFranklin1 Wed 22-Jul-15 10:17:30

No. People will constantly mishear it as Toby, child will be plagued!

BothEndsBurning Wed 22-Jul-15 10:17:49

Is that short for Horrible?

AmysTiara Wed 22-Jul-15 10:19:38

I hear hobo sorry

reuset Wed 22-Jul-15 10:27:56

Hobie for a boy? Good idea for boys, and girls, keeps them out of mischief during the school holidays. wink The other pronunciation sounds like a pet name for hobo.

A good name it does not make. <Snorts at the idea of it being a 'real' name in its own right>

Babyfeverdrivingmecrazy Wed 22-Jul-15 19:52:37

Loveareading I love it too!!

Rox19 Wed 22-Jul-15 19:53:11

Haha looks like 'hobble' ? Weird name

Tanaqui Wed 22-Jul-15 19:54:42

Love it, have you read after the rescue?

birchygoo Wed 22-Jul-15 20:02:00

I met a hobie in America and he is now deceased but he was the most amazing man and for that I love this name as has great memories for me.

I think it's a cute baby name but also really suited him as a man

Sorry but I think it is absolutely dreadful.
