I don't really love any of them - nice names, just not to my taste.

If I had to choose, I'd say Leo James or Dexter James for a boy, and Mia James for a girl.

How do you pronounce Eilidh?

I like Leo or Leon for a boy.

Dexter and Mia.

I prefer Leo and Mia. I do like Dexter but am now thinking it could be a bit dated rather quickly.

I'm not keen on any of the boys names, but would choose Leo if I had to pick one.
Mia is lovely.

Aubrey is a boys' name. I like it for a boy as it's been around for many years but few people will have known one. Never seen Aubrie before.

I like Leo and Leon, but Leo is currently very popular. I like Anton, which is in a similar style.

The other names don't do anything for me. I dislike "surname" type names.

Leo or Eilidh would definitely be my choices from your list too (assuming you're in Scotland for any issues around pronunciation!!).... agree Aubrey is male name even if you are spelling it with an 'ie'!

Eilidh and Leo are nice don't like any of the other ones. Leo is quite popular around here with babies so that would possibly put me off though

Aubrey is not a boy's name, it's unisex (due to being a traditionally male name but now a hugely popular first name for girls in the US). In 2013 Aubrey ranked 959 for girls with 38 babies. It ranked 850 for boys with 35 babies. You don't get much more unisex than that. In the US Aubrey ranked at number 15 for girls last year and I don't think it's used for boys at all there.

I love Aubrey for a girl but wouldn't change the spelling.
I also really like Eilidh
Mia is ok.

I like Leo and Kian from your boys list. Dexter is ok, not keen on Blake or Leon.

Just because some ignorant people have stolen a boys' name to foist on girls, that doesn't mean it's no longer a boys' name.

Leon is great. Leo is also lovely but more popular.

I like Eilidh best of your girls' names.

manicinsomniac · 14/07/2015 22:37

Yes it does, BothEndsBurning . If a girl has a name then it's a girl's name. The name of that girl. And if it catches on then it's the name of lots of girls and therefore a unisex name. Language changes. Some names change gender almost completely. Would you still insist that Alison, Tracy and Hilary are boys names? Despite probably 98% of their owners being female?
