Rose Ethel

I've already had a thread about a different first name with Ethel, so I've heard all the stuff people think about Ethel as a name in general. But what do you think about this as a combination? Classic English surname beginning with B, two syllables.

I actually prefer Ethel Rose.
I haven't seen your other threads Smile

The gist of the other thread is that everybody hates Ethel, ha ha.

I like it. Rose is so pretty and quite rare as a first name.

Rose is very pretty and although its quite cutesy works as an adult too. Wouldn't worry too much about what anyone thinks of middle names. I couldn't tell you what any of my DCs' friends' middle names are and can only remember the mid names of two of my friends' kids and one of my 3 nieces!!

I know, but I have to like the middle name :D And you never know if they'll end up needing or using it. I am loving this name right now.

Not even pregnant - ttc DC3 though :)

Not even pregnant!!! I was the same trying out endless names for about 2 years, still DC3 had no name til he was 2 weeks old and I'm not sure I like it now. Good luck.

I don't mind Ethel but I also prefer Ethel Rose to Rose Ethel. I don't think Rose Ethel flows very well.

Love name Rose. But Ethel is too much like nettle . I'd only use Ethel if it was a family name as in some sort of tradition.

Love Rose but can't stand Ethel.
But Ethel Rose flows. Where as Rose Ethel doesn't.

Ethel is awful and Rose added to it makes it even worse.

I love Ethel. Rose is boring.

Something Rose has a better rhythm than Rose Something. Ethel is a bit 'dusty' as a name.

I like it, Rose as a first name is lovely but boring and generic as a middle name.

MamaLazarou · 09/07/2015 15:35

Sorry, there's nothing you can do to Ethel to make it pretty: not even adding Rose to it.

I think Ethel is a lovely name, and Rose is beautiful.

Ethel Rose does flow better, but (aside from the fact I don't like Ethel) it makes me think of one of those Anglo-Saxon kings - Ethelbert or Ethelred the Unready!

I do like Rose as a first name though.

Those who think Ethel is a "lovely name" have you got particularly strong accents that change the sound? It has an ugly sound to it, and is usually said "Effl".

Sounds like Rose Pethal is missing a P.

Please do not use Ethel for any future baby. It is truly dreadful.

Ethel wouldn't become Effl in the North but I still dislike it-its a granny name too far for me.
