Middle name - suggestions, please!

I'd love your middle name suggestions for our daughter due in three months. Our front runner is currently Grace but I'm worried it's a bit of a 'filler' middle name. Restrictions:

  • can't end with an A, as this sounds silly with the first name
  • could start with an A, but preferably not
  • can't end in an 'ee' sound as sounds odd with surname
  • not more than three syllables, preferably more than one
  • nothing too American or surnamey, e.g. Riley - not our style
  • DP isn't a fan of 'old lady' names, much to my dismay

Any suggestions?

Three avenues spring to mind

A virtue name like grace but more unusual eg faith, honor, hope

A 'filler' ie very popular middle name but from a different generation eg Louise, Jane
A royal classic, Charlotte, Beatrice, Eleanor,

Can you just pick a family name that you like and not worry about whether it goes with the first/last names? ime the middle name never gets used after the first couple of weeks so it's nicer to have something that is meaningful rather than something that is picked because it goes.

If no family name, how about the name of a place that means something to you or a band or something? I hope that doesn't sound negative, it's just that I like the fact that my DSs first names are their own and not after anyone, but I also like the fact that we chose their middle names after people that mean a lot to us - the names aren't used much but DSs know why they were chosen and it's special to them and us. As far as checking whether it went with the first name goes, all we did was check that the initials didn't spell out "bum" or similar :)

Names that might fit your criteria:

Catherine
Helen
Carys
Eloise
Summer
Amber
Josephine

Thanks everyone! Some really good suggestions here.

I'd love her middle name to have meaning, but we can't think of anyone we'd like to honour in that way that doesn't/didn't have a dreadful name!

Perhaps you could, as previous poster suggested, choose a 'virtue name' (eg Hope or Joy) that you valued. Or a name that has links to a special place or your heritage, or your family holidays, or your own romance. Or a favourite flower, film or song. Or something seasonal. Or you could think of an admirable person from the past or still living. Or even something that seems very, very 'now', as a reminder of her birth year.
