What do you think of the name Elliot?

I'm from an Eastend/Spanish (although I'm quite well spoken myself), background and my partner is an Essex boy I suppose. I use to really like the names Micky or Darren, however I find them a bit rough and outdated now :/

I really like the name Elliot, what do you think? Too posh? Too privileged?

If I married a well-off stockbroker my name choices would've been different ;) Perhaps Hugo and Laurence.

My only issue is I'd have wanted something more to do with my side of the family. Most men in my family are called Thomas (Tommy), including my Granddaddy, however I don't like the name!

I love the middle name Maddox though :)

I love the name Elliot. It was my choice for my DS but my sister had her son a week before me and used it. I was gutted. Why do you think Laurence would be a posh stockbrokers name? Its my Dad and Grandads name and they were definitely not stockbrokers just engineers

I love it, there was a baby name thread about Rupert earlier, IMHO that's a posh name, Elliot is a classic, classy name but not posh or wet sounding at all.

Rupert was what my Mum wanted to call her last baby before she miscarried, sadly. I really like the name, although I dislike it personally for a boy between the ages of 13 and 25. Lol

My OH is funny with names, I'm quite frankly sick of his stubborn choice of 'Steven or Oscar' and even contemplated living him to name my baby as I choose (whilst hormones were at a high).

It's not classic at all. (That would be older names like James, William, Edward, etc.) Not post, but not chavvy either. It's fine, one of the best 'surname' first names, as it has been used as a first name for at least a few decades now, and doesn't have another meaning like 'Hunter' etc.

Bit difficult to shorten, though, you can hardly call a boy 'Ellie'.

The Elliot I know is just called Elliot.
