Thoughts please.

This is the only name we have both agreed on so far!

DH likes: Atticus, Horatio

I like: Solomon, Gideon, Percival.

Middle name will be John for family reasons.

What do you think?

pieceofpurplesky Tue 23-Jun-15 20:50:35

No. Just no.
I also don't like Atticus, Horatio or Percival.
Sol and Gideon are ok.

SavoyCabbage Tue 23-Jun-15 20:51:37

The Man who makes Husbands Jealous is what I think of.

bringbacksideburns Tue 23-Jun-15 20:52:48

No sorry. But each to their own etc

bluewisteria Tue 23-Jun-15 20:54:17

I quite like it but the only nickname I can think of sounds like lice confused

MappingTheMind Tue 23-Jun-15 20:55:00

I know a lovely Lysander who was born on midsummers eve so named after the character in Midsummer Nights Dream. Lovely name. I like all yours and your husbands ideas other than Gideon (which reminds me of George Osborne).

MappingTheMind Tue 23-Jun-15 20:55:21

Nickname - Sandy

dangerrabbit Tue 23-Jun-15 20:55:23

The ones you can shorten to make a nickname are ok

Eg Horace, Percy. Long they just sound a bit Old Testament/pretentious to me

littlesupersparks Tue 23-Jun-15 20:56:51

Lysander- sandy if you need a nickname- I like it :-)

hawkmcqueen Tue 23-Jun-15 20:56:52

I like it, as well as Atticus. Met a little Atticus recently, lovely. Also like Solomon.

Not so keen on Horatio or Gideon.

bridgetsmummy Tue 23-Jun-15 20:57:43

Those names are all awful.
Just use John, that's a proper name

albertcampionscat Tue 23-Jun-15 21:00:46

Some talk of Alexander, and some of Hercules
Of Hector and Lysander, and such great names as these.
But of all the world's great heroes, there's none that can compare.
With a tow, row, row, row, row, row, to the British Grenadiers.

Actually, it's not that bad. 'Xander' is a nice nickname.

Amummyatlast Tue 23-Jun-15 21:03:07

I prefer Lysander to your other possible names. I've always liked A Midsummer Night's Dream.

OllyBJolly Tue 23-Jun-15 21:05:43

Always loved that name! If I'd had a boy it would have been a contender.

Sandy, Lee, Derry, Xander.

BlankXpression Tue 23-Jun-15 21:07:00

I like it. And it is far nice than any of your others.

Takver Tue 23-Jun-15 21:10:54

I like it. I slightly know a very nice middle aged Scouse bloke called Lysander and he doesn't seem to ever shorten it. Xander is a cool nname if you wanted one, though.

Of your other options, I like Horatio best.

MrsHenryMountbattenWindsor Tue 23-Jun-15 21:12:47

I was going to call my baby Lysander!!! But she turned out to be a DD, and anyway I thought people would laugh at me! Us country folk can't really carry off those kinds of names.

MamaLazarou Tue 23-Jun-15 21:16:32

I'm sorry but it's just too try-hard.

toobreathless Tue 23-Jun-15 21:20:14

Thank you all.

I was prepared for some people to hate it smile I suspect our DDs names are also quite 'marmite'

Nicknames would be Xander or Sandy.

I don't mind the 'lice' thing, I don't think it's the obvious nickname for it, I get the same response every time I see Alice though! I think 'A Lice!'

Our surname is very short, one syllable, and needs a longer name IYSWIM.

Spog Tue 23-Jun-15 21:20:32

all so, so arseweepingly awful.
the poor kid's gonna get 7 types of shit beaten out of him at school.
as rachel from friends once said: "are you in involved in some kind of dare?"

villainousbroodmare Tue 23-Jun-15 21:21:30

It's the try-hardest list I've ever heard. grin

MitzyLeFrouf Tue 23-Jun-15 21:21:58

I imagine a Regency romantic hero, maybe with a touch of TB for added romantic pallor.

At 16 your Lysander will be dedicating sonnets to a girl's eyes while his pals will be off happy slapping or whatever antics da yoof will get up to in 2030.

MrsHenryMountbattenWindsor Tue 23-Jun-15 21:22:24

the poor kid's gonna get 7 types of shit beaten out of him at school.

Not if he's at school with Atticus, Horatio, Solomon, Gideon and Percival!

NomiMalone Tue 23-Jun-15 21:23:20

Lysander is the best of your poncey names. Xander is a good nn.

I prefer John to all of them though. Johnny is cool.
