Thoughts please.

This is the only name we have both agreed on so far!

DH likes: Atticus, Horatio

I like: Solomon, Gideon, Percival.

Middle name will be John for family reasons.

What do you think?

No. Just no.
I also don't like Atticus, Horatio or Percival.
Sol and Gideon are ok.

The Man who makes Husbands Jealous is what I think of.

No sorry. But each to their own etc

I quite like it but the only nickname I can think of sounds like lice Confused

I know a lovely Lysander who was born on midsummers eve so named after the character in Midsummer Nights Dream. Lovely name. I like all yours and your husbands ideas other than Gideon (which reminds me of George Osborne).

Nickname - Sandy

The ones you can shorten to make a nickname are ok

Eg Horace, Percy. Long they just sound a bit Old Testament/pretentious to me

Lysander- sandy if you need a nickname- I like it :-)

I like it, as well as Atticus. Met a little Atticus recently, lovely. Also like Solomon.

Not so keen on Horatio or Gideon.

Those names are all awful.
Just use John, that's a proper name

Some talk of Alexander, and some of Hercules
Of Hector and Lysander, and such great names as these.
But of all the world's great heroes, there's none that can compare.
With a tow, row, row, row, row, row, to the British Grenadiers.

Actually, it's not that bad. 'Xander' is a nice nickname.

I prefer Lysander to your other possible names. I've always liked A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Always loved that name! If I'd had a boy it would have been a contender.

Sandy, Lee, Derry, Xander.

BlankXpression · 23/06/2015 21:07

I like it. And it is far nice than any of your others.

I like it. I slightly know a very nice middle aged Scouse bloke called Lysander and he doesn't seem to ever shorten it. Xander is a cool nname if you wanted one, though.

Of your other options, I like Horatio best.

I was going to call my baby Lysander!!! But she turned out to be a DD, and anyway I thought people would laugh at me! Us country folk can't really carry off those kinds of names.

I'm sorry but it's just too try-hard.

Thank you all.

I was prepared for some people to hate it :) I suspect our DDs names are also quite 'marmite'

Nicknames would be Xander or Sandy.

I don't mind the 'lice' thing, I don't think it's the obvious nickname for it, I get the same response every time I see Alice though! I think 'A Lice!'

Our surname is very short, one syllable, and needs a longer name IYSWIM.

all so, so arseweepingly awful.
the poor kid's gonna get 7 types of shit beaten out of him at school.
as rachel from friends once said: "are you in involved in some kind of dare?"

It's the try-hardest list I've ever heard. Grin

I imagine a Regency romantic hero, maybe with a touch of TB for added romantic pallor.

At 16 your Lysander will be dedicating sonnets to a girl's eyes while his pals will be off happy slapping or whatever antics da yoof will get up to in 2030.

Not if he's at school with Atticus, Horatio, Solomon, Gideon and Percival!

Lysander is the best of your poncey names. Xander is a good nn.

I prefer John to all of them though. Johnny is cool.

Solomon is my favourite from the list. I don't think it's tease-worthy, I think Sol/Solomon sounds like the cool kid with the guitar.
