Oisin

I like strong, short boys names and we have a long surname. We have a Lou (Louis) and I'm wondering about Lou and Osh?
We have Welsh heritage. But our surname ends in 'son', so it'd have to be pronounced 'Osheen', like the only other Oisin I know.
Thoughts? Thanks

Oisin is Irish and it means little faun.

I absolutely love it.

I'm probably biased from having spent time in East Asia, but there is a very popular company called Oisim that makes things like massage chairs. It just makes me think of that, sorry...

Thanks. I just googled it and found it was Irish! Oops, should've done that first. Should probably run it by my husband too...
I do have Irish heritage, but only a few generations back so a bit tenuous... I wonder if it matters?
Love the meaning though.

I thought the massage chair company was Osim?

Love Oisin, very strong name that works for all ages.

I love it. I would have pronounced it Osheen by default.

Best boys name ever! It's one I can't use though Sad

I love Oisín but I really don't think it goes with Louis.

Also it's pronounced more like Uh-sheen with emphasis on the first syllable in Ireland.

The Welsh version is Osian. Could be shortened to Osh.

It's a fabulous Irish name but I think it's a little bit of a leap using it without a strong Irish connection. Doesn't really matter I suppose but most people would assume he had at least one Irish parent.

I tend to agree. Can anyone help with the pronunciation of the Welsh version?

I knew a Welsh guy called Osian, pronounced Oshen (I think) unlike the UshEEN Irish pronunciation. Love both names and would probably have gone for it as a name if we had had a boy second time around.

The Welsh version is written Osian, and pronounced Osh-an as SaulGood says.

Great name :)

Thanks. I thought so. I guess it's a no then as the Welsh version doesn't work with our surname. Back to the drawing board!
