Do your worst, MNers :D

I really like Daisy (& my DP desperately wants it for our DD)/but i'm not keen on Ethel. Together it's a bit scullery maid but there are much much much worse combinations suggested on here!!!

PurpleDaisies Fri 19-Jun-15 15:19:00

Is Ethel a relative or special person? It wouldn't be my choice but I like Daisy.

If you really like Daisy Ethel just go for it!

Ethel is my husband's favourite baby name. He would have it for a first name (not going to happen).

Our other two DDs also have middle names beginning with E (Edith and Eleanor). This was just a coincidence - Edith we loved but was also the name of DH's much-loved grandmother; Eleanor just flowed best with my other DD's first name. But I sort of think that we have to continue with the E thing, and it also gets my DH off the idea of Ethel for a first name!

I actually think it's quite pretty, and I can imagine a really cool and quirky Ethel. But it's too marmite a name for us, and as our other two DDs have names conventionally thought of as pretty, it would be going too far off-piste to use it as a first name - she might hate us down the line!

Totally get the scullery maid thing! hmm

swancourt Fri 19-Jun-15 15:39:47

Also DH hates Elizabeth and Eliza. I have no idea why, as they are both beautiful names in my book.

PurpleDaisies Fri 19-Jun-15 15:45:25

Just go for it! It sounds like you're pretty decided and if your husband is really keen on Ethel as a middle name, why not?

Loads of my friends' children have old fashioned middle names (mainly because of much loved grandparents!) and none of them have needed therapy because of it. How often does anyone ask what your middle name is anyway? Congratulations on your impending new arrival by the way smile

Sounds great to me

I like it.

MamaLazarou Fri 19-Jun-15 16:45:57

Terrible - hilariously so. Sorry, you did ask.

Honestly one of the worst I have seen on here recently.

Leaflitter Fri 19-Jun-15 16:47:33

Your choice but since you asked...

I find Daisy a bit overused and Ethel is just completely ugly, sorry! But it doesn't really matter for a middle name. So just ignore me!

twinjocks Fri 19-Jun-15 17:18:43

My DD's name followed by my Grandmother's name!! Granny hated her name, mainly because she couldn't pronounce her "th" when she was little and called herself "Eff-el", but I do like the combination. Go for it!!

ragged Fri 19-Jun-15 17:39:23

Sorry, I'm lining up with MamaL.
Daisy is okay. Not my thang but ordinary enough.

Benchmark Fri 19-Jun-15 18:01:19

I really like that combination. Ethel has grown on me and Daisy is lovely.

PallasCat Fri 19-Jun-15 18:04:58

OP I like both names, but there are a lot of Daisies around, in my experience.

EnviousLlama excellent link! Thank you!

ThroughThickAndThin01 Fri 19-Jun-15 18:07:01

Daisy is lovely.

Ethel is fine as a middle name; most names are.

Allalonenow Fri 19-Jun-15 18:12:36

I like Daisy, though agree it's quite popular ATM, but not keen at all on Ethel.
To keep the E initial what about Estelle, Emmeline or Esmeralda?

Viviennemary Fri 19-Jun-15 18:18:10

Daisy is fine but but Ethel is terrible and such a clumsy sounding name.

ataposaurus Fri 19-Jun-15 20:28:27

Daisy is OK, quite popular but pretty.
I have tried to like Ethel but can't see the appeal - however, I do think it is one of these names that will catch on more with 'trendy' people over the next few years so by the time she is twenty there will be lots of younger Ethels and it will seem cool!

Magicalmrmistofeles Fri 19-Jun-15 20:29:59

I love the sound of it but my issue with Daisy is if you don't grow I to a gorgeous svelte adult the bovine similarities are going to come in to play.

Love Ethel.

ditzzy Fri 19-Jun-15 20:35:52

I didn't realise Daisy had become popular - that's our planned name for dd1 due in September!!

One of the reasons we chose it is because we don't know any other Daisys.

HeffaLumpers Fri 19-Jun-15 20:37:26

I was going to suggest Edith instead of Ethel but I see you have one already. I think Ethel is ok as a middle name although Edith and Eleanor are much nicer. I wouldn't use Daisy with it though, i don't think they world together. I think you need to swap one of them.

BeautifulStars93 Sat 20-Jun-15 11:03:24

its beautiful.

badg3r Sat 20-Jun-15 11:09:27

Sorry but going to have to drive with MamaL and ragged on this one... not a fan of either but together they are about 100x worse! It's like the name equivalent of bacon ice-cream for me...
