We have an Oliver.....what are your thoughts on Benjamin for his brother? If not why not, and what would you suggest instead? We like strong English 3 syllable names that can be shortened. Nothing too unusual. Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds fine to me.

Benjamin means "favourite child" (killed by his jealous brothers in the Old Testament) but don't tell your other DS. Grin
What about Samuel or Jonathan?

It's just a bit boring isn't it?

Yes, choose an exciting, and 'speshul' name like Beelzebub instead, OP. Grin

It is not boring, Bais.

Offering up Tobias as a suggestion, molly.

Lovely. Dc3 was very almost a Benjamin but we went for Thomas in the end. Would probably use Benjamin if we have another boyGrin

Thanks guys. I do like Samuel. Hadn't thought of Tobias - thanks.

I do worry Ben is a bit boring, but I like it still.

can't ever think of a Benjamin without saying it the way it is said in Private Benjamin to make fun of her.. "Binamin" in a cutesy voice - it put me off.

Thanks justputyourshoesonnow. Do you think Benedict would go with Oliver? My husband has already dismissed it, but I think it should be on the list too. Thanks.

Benjamin is a lovely name. There are not many Benjamin's or Ben's at my sons school at all.

I have a Ben and think it is a great name and suits all ages (mine is almost 14). He is just Ben though, not Benjamin.

Gorgeous name.

I also like Samuel and Peter (too few syllables though, I know).

Personally I think that Benedict sound a bit harsh. It's very popular on here though.

You don't need to pick a weird name just to avoid a dull and boring one y'know! The OP asked for opinions and that's mine

Benjamin is a gorgeous classic name, not "boring" and, although there are a few around, it is certainly not uber-popular.

However, if you go for names like Theodore and Tobias, you will run the risk of them sounding "boring" in a few year's time -they are definitely on the rise - so many Theos and Tobys around - and they are not as "classic" as Benjamin.

I agree that Samuel is also lovely.

What about Timothy?

Having said that, I would go with Ben - it's a great name

Good Luck.
