So I think we have settled on our girls name but can't agree on how we should spell it. I would normally opt the the most traditional/common spelling for a name but not sure which that is for this one.

DDs middle name is Erica to follow the Eric tradition in DHs family. Erica with a C is the English spelling of the Germanic version Erika. Before I had an Erica and before I knew the 67262837 million Eric's in DHs family, I wouldn't have ever spelt either the masculine or feminine version with a K. Either is pretty though.

Erika is the name derived from Scandinavian origins.

Erica is a plant - a type of heather.

I know an Eryka which I also like (Swedish)

I prefer Erica as it seems a bit softer. Dh prefers Erika he thinks it is stronger.
Not sure if the heather correlation makes me like it more or puts me off.

Personally I prefer Erica but both are recognisable, correct spellings.

Helpful, I know!

I much prefer Erika, I like the European look to this and it will travel further than Erica.

In English I'd say Erica is the more conventional, personally I prefer Erika.

I kind of like the scandi connection - obsessed with scandi style at the mo. Not deliberate but our boys name is a bit scandi too - Frederick. We have a tendency to produce very blonde babies so not entirely inappropriate ;-). But then maybe the English adaption would be more appropriate for our own heritage. Achh I am torn!!! I am normally so definate on name spellings!

I had exactly this thread at October, I think. Anyway, we plumped for Erika (who's 5 months now.) opinions on here were very much half and half. We went for the K as her middle name's also a 'boys name' feminised with an 'a' at the end and we thought it looked less like we'd really wanted a boy and feminised both her names. I'm happy with Erika but didn't feel too strongly either way. Anyhow, my Erika's the most darling baby ever, so hopefully the name will bring you good luck!

I prefer Erica but have you considered the infamous Airwrecka spelling?? Grin

This was one of my fantasy girl names (have 3 dd's) and I would have gone for the Erika spelling - to my mind it makes it look more like a separate name from Eric? (and I loved the idea of Riki as a nn)

Have 3 Ds's I mean - that's why the girls names are fantasy.....

I have found out I'm having a girl today and I have always loved this name.I want to use it too. I would go for Erica because its softer.

Erica would have marginally easier flow when writing in cursive.

Just bumping this as I am still undecided and could use a few more opinions.

I prefer the soft Latin Erica to the spiky Erika.

I prefer Erica, it being the botanical name for heather makes me like it more. I also think it looks much prettier written down than Erika.
