Found out I'm expecting 1 and a half weeks ago, we are all so excited! I already have 2 DDs, Lyra and Renn who absolutely insist the baby is called Elsa (wonder where THAT came from) On the realistic side of things, DH and I still had a shortlist from last DD Renn and and with a bit of editing we have another. Tell me what you think, how do they fit with Renn and Lyra?

Girls:
Gabriella- It seems a bit too girly but I do like it
Crescent- Hadn't heard of this one before, but I really like it!
Eleanor- Quite like it, still...
Winter- Pretty good!
Emily- Perhaps too common but with a lot of charm!
Erin- I really like this one- like really
... And Elsa? I won't admit it to DDs, but I do actually like this name although am hesitating to put it on the list cuz of Frozen... I like strong girl names, which have all different channels of interpretation in them.

Boys:
Bear- LOVE this one sooooo much
Torak- Equal with Bear
Hawk- Yesssss
Eric- This one is lovely!
Needs more adding to it tho... I like really natural inspired uncommon boys names (but not totally weird) with character!

XD going to stay up all night and wait, so excited!!!

Crescent????????????????????????????????! Sorry but no, no, and thrice no.

Emily is sweet, and I really like Elinor.

Don't like your boys' names at all, sorry. If I HAD to choose one, it would be Eric.

Ideas:
Dale
Rowan
Ross
Bram(Bramwell or Abraham) or Bran (Branwell)

We have massively different tastes in names op.

I'm not a fan of any of your boys' names either (again Eric best of the bunch). You have some lovely girl options...Erin or Emily would be my favourites. Eleanor is nice too.

I would say Erin & Winter match your other DD's names best - don't like Crescent at all & the other suggestions are a bit girly/trad compared to Lyra& Renn

Don't like any of the boys names except Eric I'm afraid - Torak is particularly bad IMO!

I just met a baby girl Winter. I loved it!

And Elsa. It's a great name, even with Frozen connections.

And I like Eric.

Gabriella - love it but not sure it goes with Lyra and Renn and really don't like Gabbi
Crescent - is this really a name? I don't like the sound anyway.
Eleanor - like it but not keen on Ellie or Nell
Winter - like it. Think it goes well with Lyra and Renn
Emily - sweet but way too popular to go with Lyra and Renn
Erin - really like it. Is the sound too similar to Renn?
Elsa - it is actually a pretty name. And it would be cute if your daughters had named her. It goes too.

Bear - not sure about this at all, I think it's a bit odd
Torak - actually really like this. And it goes with Lyra and Renn
Hawk - no, way too far for me.
Eric - no, middle aged man

From your lists I'd choose Winter or Elsa and Torak. Other ideas:

Astrid, Aphra, Autumn, Ariel, Briar, Bronte, Brodie, Blue, Calista, Cleo, Coco, Cassidy, Carmen, Cerys, Dana, Daphne, Effie, Etta, Edie, Erica, Ebony, Efa, Fallon, Farrah, Fabia, Giselle, Heidi, Hedda, Hebe, Harper, Iona, Iris, Isis, Ines, Ingrid, Jessamy, Jerica, Juno, Juniper, Kiki, Kirsty, Mila, Mala, Misty, Mina, Maeve, Mallory, Mirren, Nia, Nyah, Nina, Nora, Ocean, Piper, Polly, Quinn, Raine, Rowena, Sorrel, Saffron, Silver, Summer, Sadie, Stella, Saskia, Sierra, Star, Tegan, Thea, Veda, Verity, Vashti, Willow, Willa, Xenia, Xanthe, Zia, Zillah, Zelda

Arlo, Ashton, Asher, Brogan, Brynn, Blue, Colby, Corey, Casper, Cosmo, Ellis, Emerson, Echo, Farrow, Gray, Hunter, Harlow, Idris, Inigo, Indigo, Jesse, Jasper, Milo, Nico, North, Orlando, Phoenix, Quinn, Sonny, Solly, Storm, Tian, Talon, Walter

You can't have Renn and Erin- way too similar. We have very similar taste- Lyra was on my shortlist. And so was Elsa until Frozen happened. But I think if you have 2 DC already you can get away with Elsa because you can say it was their choice. I'd go Elsa!

+RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Yeah, I was getting the feeling Crescent may seem weird to some, perhaps not... Elinor or Eleanor I really like too! DH isn't a great fan of Dmily and while I like it a lot I think it's probably too common. ?? To the boys names, I guess it's a just a certain taste. I like Rowan a lot and Bram/Bran is nice too!

+PurpleDaisies Yeah, a lot of friends always comment on my weird tastes in stuff XD. Same thing with certain taste as above. I'm glad girl choices are ok! ??

+FunkyPeacock Erin and Winter are heavy competitors! Crescent may be a bit too adventurous seeing comments, so I'll discuss it with DH (who'll probably agree with you!) but I (think) he likes the other names. It seems Eric is pretty good, but I love Torak too much to knock it off the list entirely ??

+FatSwan Winter is very popular, I'm glad! ?? Elsa is a beautiful name, and I've decided to stick it in the shortlist and (sadly ??) throw Crescent out. And Eric is ever popular too!

Thanks so much guys! I'll be waiting for other suggestions ??
Me in the morning ??

Personally I would stick to the names on your list that are actually names... Bear, Hawk, Crescent sound ridiculous IMO. I understand you may want something more unusual to go with Lyra and Renn but I think you should stick to something that won't be embarrassing to your DC when s(he) is an adult. You can still have something a little less common.

Thanks for more suggestions manicinsomniac and luckiestgirlintheworld! Gabriella is just there because I can't bear to take it away, Crescent is sadly off, would NEVER shorten Eleanor like this, Winter does go well but not as keen as some of the others, I agree with your 'popularity' of Emily, so I think that's off the list too, Erin I agree is quite similar to Renn. Discovered a really blossoming interest in Elsa, it's high in the list and DH likes it!

Bear, hmmm, mixed views with me and DS, it's milling around in list limbo. Still love Torak to bits and it goes AMAZINGLY with Renn. Hawk hanging around with Bear. Eric is hanging beneath Torak. LOOOOVE TORAK!

Astrid- Both DH and I don't at all like it
Aphra- Not really sounds too much like Aphrodite
Autumn- Quite pretty but I already have Winter and DH is not a fan
Ariel- Nahhhh from both sides (Miserably picky me)
Briar- Very nice, perhaps in a longlist!
Bronte- Like Charlotte Bronte? Not really...
Brodie- Hmm, doesn't make the cut for me but DH really likes it!
Blue- Very nice, but perhaps a bit too far fetched, longlist!
Calista- DH thinks it's ok, I don't like it.
Cleo- Noooooo, far too trendy!
Coco- Hm, doesn't quite make the cut but interesting.
Cassidy- No, urgh girly.
Carmen- DH likes it a bit I don't really.
Cerys- The image of celery for some reason... No
Dana- Ooh, interesting! Longlist!
Daphne- Waaaaaaay too girly
Effie- Again, 'prissy polly' inclination
Etta- Boring
Edie- Ok, was going to add to longlist but DH strongly opposed
Erica- No,no,no,no
Ebony- Creeping around the longlist but DH is against
Efa- What does this even mean? Not for us.
Fallon- Wow, in the longlist!
Farrah- Middle eastern man associations
Fabia- Mmmmm no.
Giselle- Quaint but not really for us.
Heidi- Nice, added to longlist!
Hedda- Head up Hedda! Not exactly for me and DH.
Hebe- Reminds us of herbs, nah.
Harper- Gah trendy and faddy!
Iona- Just doesn't grab us.
Iris- Like the iris of an eye? No.
Isis- Spluttering a bit here??
Ines- Like Iona, doesn't grab us, bland as porridge oats.
Ingrid- Pretty, just missed the longlist from DH's vetoe.
Jessamy- Huh? So odd...
Jerica- Same as Jessamy
Juno- Sounds like a chocolate bar
Juniper- Nice, popped into the longlist.
Kiki- Sounds like a Japenese anime character, no from both.
Kirsty- Too common
Mila- Nice just doesn't suit us very well.
Mala- Same as Mila
Misty- Very nice! Into the Longlist!

Puff, have to stop listing them now, but for now shortlist is:
Elsa
Erin
Eleanor
Gabriella

Torak
Kasper
Talon, two new additions

Longlist:
Briar
Blue
Dana
Fallon
Heidi
Misty

Bear
Hawk
Farrow
Hunter
Storm

Please give more suggestions, so much appreciated! Going to bed now, Dds sleeping soundly and DH down at the pub with friends :)

Agree you can't have an Wrin with Renn. It's a shame as Erin is lovely.

Crescent is RIDICULOUS

I like Elinor.

Else is sweet.

What about Mila or Nina?

I don't like Eric. It reminds me of Simon Cowell who has an Eric.

I sort of like Bear!

For a boy what about Wolf? Hawk is awful and not a name. Wolf is a name. I know a new little Jett which you might like. Jude?

So far mentioned on the thread we have Storm, Hawk, Hunter, Fox, Jet, and Wolf!

Gos, OP, reading this through sounds so negative. Please feel free to ignore!! Am really sorry and trying to understand your taste, but where does Renn come from? I honestly do not know. Is it Wren spelled wrong?? Is it male or female? (sorry, just checked and see that you have 2 x DD).

Also really don't want to sound impolite, but Lyra is modern fantasy, so is Torak. I fear that both might date. Bear is a nickname (at best). Crescent is not a personal name. Hawk is a bird. Irish people say that Erin is a name used by Americans who want to claim links with Ireland - or a brand of soup.

Emily, Elinor and Erik are all good names. So are Elsa or Elsie.

I've just remembered that I do a reading comprehension with one of my classes where the characters are called Torak and Wren. I don't know what book it's from but if it's famous that might influence your choice?

Loving your detailed critique of my suggestions! Grin Glad you liked some of them, anyway (think I did better with the boys!)

I mean Renn, not Wren. Sorry, don't know why I did that.

I love your girls' names! Would love to know where you gor the name Renn from though?

As for DC3? My favourite boy's name is Bear. Obviously a marmite name, but I adore marmite! Kasper..... Problem with this name is the spelling. If you don't mind your child forever having to spell out his name then that's fine. I have an unusual real name & hated it until I reach my teens & now I love that its fairly unique. Least likeable name is Farrow.
Elinor would be my favourite out of your girls names. Erin is too similar to Renn. Elsa will become more & more popular & I'm not keen on it to start with.

It really doesn't matter what any of us say as whatever name you like will be right one for your baby.

CakeRattleandRoll · 11/06/2015 06:47

My favourites from your girl's list are Elsa and Eleanor (and Juniper if it's still there.) Elspeth is another 'El' name and could give you nn of Elsa/Elsie.

Torak makes me think of Toorak (a super-posh suburb of Melbourne). But Torak and Renn are also the main characters in a children's book series - is that where you got those names from? Given the possibility that a film of the books may be made, it may seem odd having two DC with those names, (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronicles_of_Ancient_Darkness ).

I have a DS with nn Bear. His 'real' name is Edward, and so 'Bear' comes via his other nn of Teddy. (As for Bear Grylls, I believe.) Names like Edmund or Edwin could also give nn Bear. I think this is better than Bear on bc.

Other suggestions:
Celeste
Agnes
Nerida
Aderyn
Nimue
Meriel

Torin
Tobin
Orson
Osian (OSH-un)
