I like them both, I don't think either are all that different tbh, I definitely don't agree that they sound like you're trying too hard to be different. I know they're not in the top 100, but they're not made up or way out hippy like Moonbeam or Snorkmaiden.

I like them both too - they do say slightly left field to me, if not all-out hippy (you're not going to have Skye and Luna as siblings to Sarah and Louise are you?!) but both pretty names and increasingly seen in my Facebook news feed (Luna more than Skye)

Skye is fairly common in Scotland - link to Scottish island of Skye. If you have no link to the isle of Skye, I'd think it was more odd.

Luna is just odd and dippy to me, sorry.

Skye - my brother's dog. My friend's rabbit. There's a theme evolving here. As a teacher, I met a lot of people with names I wouldn't have chosen for my own child. Skye might be one of those. Perfectly serviceable, nothing wrong with it, just not to my taste.

Luna - pretty. But doesn't it suggest insanity? Its a good 'online' name. I know a few online Lunas. And a remarkable number of Loreleis. But don't go there.

Skye and Luna might well be sisters. Cousins to Moonbeam. All nice girls. Yes, they have my vote.

Really hell ? I haven't "met" any dogs with those names. One of my dts has a dogs name I didn't realise at the time, not that it would have stopped me, we quite often meet dogs in the park who share his name. He is only 4 though so thinks it is quite cool.
Come to think of it, the only "dogs names" I can think of are boys names, most of the girl dogs I know are Bonny ( I know it's a girls name, but not one I hear that often) or Missus.

Skye - very common up here in Scotland, no big deal. I really like the name.

Skye is a rather pretty and the island is beautiful. As others have said, it's fairly popular name here in Scotland. Not outrageous at all. But it IS also a dog's name, often used for border collies/working sheepdogs. But then so are Meg and Jess and other short, clear, one-syllable sounds.

Luna does not sound very pretty to me. And it's the Latin for Moon, with all the loony, lunatic etc etc associations.

I can think of 4 Skyes round here, at cubs they get addressed as land, sky, sea and air to distinguish them. I don't like Skye, if you want to use nature name then there are prettier ones.

Luna makes me think of the moon, the tides and insanity.

Skye is a wonderful place but I don't think it always represents freedom. The largest employer is the public sector (local government etc) followed by tourism, which (some would argue) tends to promote a non-confrontational attitude that exploits - even in an undoubtedly well-meaning way - the traditional ethos of hospitality. As in many other parts of the Highlands, several local houses on Skye have been bought up by rich incomers, to 'live the dream'... Nice for some, but not very 'free spirit'...

Also, one of the several possible meanings for the island name Skye is 'isle of clouds' or 'misty isle'. It's not a place where 'clear blue sky' is frequently apparent. Still magically beautiful, however....

And - re Lili's post - how does 'wisdom' 'come with' the Moon?

I like Skye, don't think it's 'try hard' at all. Beautiful island, beautiful name. And I like its brevity and lack of frills.

I really dislike Luna. Just awful.
