Rudi is a really common German name OP (note spelling)

There is an awesome book called I Want To Go Home that has the most amazing Rudy Miller as the main character. Loved that book as a kid.

I'm going to go against the mumsnet grain and say I don't like it. It brings to mind the word "rude" or else Rudolph the red nose reindeer for me. Neither of which are particularly good connotations. DH is German and it does sound like a German name although would be spelt Rudi. Just did a quick scan of the top 300 names last year in Germany though and it doesn't seem to be in there so not sure how popular it is nowadays. Could also be Russian though (Rudolph Nureyev for anyone into ballet). Anyway, enough random comments from me!

It sounds too much like "rude".

It's awful, sorry.

Rude.
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer.
Too cute.
The "i" ending looks goofy and people will assume it is a girl's name.

I imagine Bill Cosby saying it in a stupid accent to the girl Rudy from the Cosby Show. And Bill Cosby isn't exactly flavour of the month at the moment!

German Rudi's are usually Rudiger (Roger) or Rudolf. Rudolph is an pan-European name though, in various spellings. I quite like it.

I like it. Isn't Smithy's sister called Rudy in Gavin and Stacey as a nickname for Ruth??

I have a Rudi - he's 7. I don't think the i ending is goofy and no one has ever assumed he was a girl so far. Grin
