I've been liking the name Avia Rose for my soon to be little girl in June.
Do you think it's too different? some of my family and friends really don't like it :-(

I think it is really boring and she will blend into a sea of Ava Roses.

no Avia sounds like a bird disease or a car hire company and tacking 'rose' onto it just sounds......worse.

It does sound like a company name

Avia produces running shoes. It's not a nice name.

Ava is nice. Popular but nice.

Avia sounds like mid range saloon car.

It sounds modern corporate to me.

I thought it was an insurance company.....

The Latin for Granny.

I once met someone called Avis and thought that was such a lovely name.

Sounds like Aviva. How about just Rose as a first name? The world and his wife use it as a middle name, but I think its lovely as it is.

I met an Avis once badpoet - I just thought 'car hire company' sadly because it is a perfectly nice name.

Sadly I agree with the others. Avia sounds like a company name/mid-range car/bird disease/Aviva/Avis (although my great aunt was called Avis!).

Ava or Aria are both much nicer imo.

Agree that Avia sounds like company name.

Fwiw - my mum was named Avis at birth, she hated it so much that she changed her name to Ava in her 50s!

It sounds very similar to Ava so she may get called that. I love Ava as a name but certainly if you read mumsnet it appears to be very popular (not sure where it is in the stats but assume top 20). Funnily I've only come across one in real life to date.

Agree that Rose has become completely ubiquitous as a middle name, everyone seems to be using it. I'm convinced that middle names are largely irrelevant though so that shouldn't stop you using it IMO.

Thanks for your input ladies. I see what you all mean but I live in North Queensland Australia and I have never heard of that name for an insurance company, a shoe brand, or any other company! We don't have anything at all called Avia anywhere near where I live and I've lived here my whole life. The only place I heard this name was on a young girl on YouTube called the Shaytards, and I really liked it. I know someone said the meaning is granny in Latin but the name means different things in different countries.
With all that said thanks for your honest opinions :) I'm seeing now that I'm in the minority with liking this name, which I guess in a way isn't such a bad thing

This.

And Avis is a really ugly, frumpy name and I cannot imagine why anyone would pick it. And an Avia will just get mistaken for Ava all the time anyway.

Errr, so why ask, OP?

I love the name Avia, and it's in my top two girls names. Also know the Shaytards and the yet lots of compliments. Shay named her after a girl he worked with on a missionary.

Surely anything with "-tards" attached to it as a joke is wrong and inappropriate? Hmm

I'd not want my DD connected with it, tbh, but having just googled, it seems 3 million people are fans, so I may be wrong.

I think of Aviva or Evian. Definitely something corporate about it. Not a fan!

Sounds like a feminine hygiene product

I should probably say though that it doesn't sound like Ava! It's pronounced "Ah-vee-Ah" in my friend's case!

Report
CeriBerry · 13/05/2015 16:40

And they're all short sounds!
