I would love some honest opinions on these girls names

I have 2 children already, one with a very modern name and one with a very old fashioned name so I am open to anything. The names are:
Jessie
Sylvie
Heather
Beatrix
I also love Abbie and Aoife. Our second name is Cavanagh, (that is pronounced like Havana) and we are in Ireland so Beatrix would not be very common but I really like it, dh is very unsure about it.

All opinions welcome.

Aoife all the way for me, especially as you are in Ireland as people will know how to say it.

Love Sylvie and Beatrix

KoalaDownUnder Tue 05-May-15 20:42:32

I don't like Heather at all. Very 80s dated vibe, and I don't see the appeal.

Beatrix will get a lot of love on here, but I don't like it much - don't love the 'beat' part.

I have a Jessie in my family so am biased, but I love it. Sylvie is lovely too.

Jessie mmmm no, no reason just dont like it
sylvie, no, sounds too old, cant imagine a little girl with that name
heather ok quite sweet
beatrix no sorry
abbie, yes nice
aoife, how is this pronounced?
Cavanagh, no, sorry

Thank you, I don't have anyone in real life to run them by. Dh likes Abbie, but its not my favourite one. Aoife is nice alright. Actually i like them all. Thanks very much.

Sylvie or Heather

Aoife is pronounced EE FAH
Cavanagh is the surname so I am stuck with that hahahaha smile

SanityClause Tue 05-May-15 20:50:10

Koala, Beatrix is usually pronounced Bee-a-trix, not Beet-rix.

3lucky, I love Sylvie, or even better, Sylvia.

I also love Beatrix, as pronounced above!

Hassled Tue 05-May-15 20:52:37

I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix, although I can't explain why. Aoife is lovely - sounds great, looks nice written down. I don't like Heather - Sylvie and Jessie and nice (but prefer Sylvia and Jessica).

CoffeeChocolateWine Tue 05-May-15 20:52:46

I quite like Jessie although I prefer Jesse for a boy
Sylvie is pretty
Heather I'm not keen on
Beatrix I really love and this is my favourite on your list. Although strangely I don't like Beatrice at all!
Abbie is lovely
Aoife is lovely too (Milliped it's pronounced a bit like Eva but more more like Ee-fa)
Unless I misunderstood, Cavanagh is your surname so not really up for discussion!

CoffeeChocolateWine Tue 05-May-15 20:53:15

X-post!

minipie Tue 05-May-15 20:53:18

I like Aoife but not with Cavanagh as they have the same sound at the end.

I think I'd pick Abbie (would call her Abigail nn Abbie) or Beatrix (nn Bea)

Blanketsandpillows Tue 05-May-15 20:53:56

You have similar taste to me. I love Heather and Beatrix. I like Aoife, Abbie and Sylvie. I think Jessie is OK

FuzzyWizard Tue 05-May-15 20:56:13

I love Aoife!

BlueChampagne Tue 05-May-15 21:01:57

Sylvie is my favourite

MackerelOfFact Tue 05-May-15 21:05:42

PMSL at having your surname slated! Only on MN! grin

I like Sylvie, it's pretty and goes with your surname well.

TiredAssShowgirl Tue 05-May-15 21:08:39

I love Beatrix, really fabulous name. Quite like Sylvie and Abigail (not Abbie)

Aoife is nice but to aaa-y with Cavanagh imo, has a similar lilt to it which makes it sound sing-song in my head. Don't like Heather or Jessie.

peachypips Tue 05-May-15 21:14:28

I love Sylvie. Jessie makes me thinks of Toy Story I'm afraid!

FunkyPeacock Tue 05-May-15 21:15:36

With your surname I like Heather or Beatrix best

I really like Aoife but not with your surname

Jessie, Abbie & Sylvie are all fine but don't appeal to me as much as the other 3

Romeyroo Tue 05-May-15 21:17:38

Agree Aoife with your surname doesn't work really. I think with your surname, I do like Beatrice, as suggested by a PP, slightly better than Beatrix, and certainly better than the other names. It sounds quite literary; Bea Cavanagh sounds nice too

TheRestofmylifeiswaiting Tue 05-May-15 21:19:31

I'm not keen on Jessie (name for a cat) or Heather (I think it's quite a harsh name) but love all your others

timelyreminder Tue 05-May-15 21:20:31

I like Jessie and Abbie as nicknames for Jessica and Abigail. Also like Beatrice more than Beatrix.

RabbitSaysWoof Tue 05-May-15 21:24:35

Jessie, Sylvie and Cavanagh grin for me

VenusVanDamme Tue 05-May-15 21:26:04

Aoife and Abbie are my favourites. Not keen on Jessie and Sylvie is too old fashioned for my taste.
