Thora is a name I'd love to bring back - it will always be associated with Thora Hird but when you consider its the female version of Thor, it is pretty cool. I know a Thurston as well.

Elektra, Cassiopeia, Cassandra, Phaedra, Helena, Venus, Circe, Penelope.
When I was training some years ago a new mum told the midwives she was going to call her new son Thor - they said people would think he had a lisp.....grin

Artemis

mrscatmad31 Sat 02-May-15 19:19:57

Thanks guys grin
can't use Thor or Thora as that's almost my surname!
I like Loki but hubby says that's asking for trouble wink

Stitchintime1 Sat 02-May-15 19:26:24

Why names from all three cultures? They have very different sounds and feel no?

mrscatmad31 Sat 02-May-15 19:34:14

They do but they seem to be the sort of names I gravitate to, want something different that means something

Orangeisthenewbanana Sat 02-May-15 22:33:12

Penelope
Ariadne
Juno
Helen(a)
Calliope
Callista
Rhea
Selene

Boys are much harder! Loki is becoming more popular and a lot of the other names I can think of would sound quite pretentious or wacky to my ear?

DS2's middle name is Atticus which I love and would have happily used as his first name.

OverAndAbove Sat 02-May-15 22:46:13

Flora is good. I also love Juno and Hera

mrscatmad31 Sun 03-May-15 06:15:56

I like Atticus grin

Mother in law likes Astrid, it's pretty

hestialou Mon 04-May-15 07:27:10

My only issue with gods names is if they don't live up to them, hestia is domestic goddess, but what if dd cant cook?

anorakgirl Mon 04-May-15 07:32:55

Was just thinking that Hestialou, Hera was a right cow!

nailsathome Mon 04-May-15 07:36:46

We're going with Loki grin

Bombinate Mon 04-May-15 07:39:46

Orion
Icarus
Sirius

mrscatmad31 Mon 04-May-15 09:08:24

I like Orion :-) Sirius is good but I have a Cirrus (pet!) and think it's too similar
Doesn't bother me if he/she doesn't live up to the name

florascotia Mon 04-May-15 10:45:51

Loki was foul - in lots of ways. He wasn't some fun trickster. Suggest anyone thinking of the name reads all the relevant myths.

nailsathome Mon 04-May-15 11:38:15

We have read them, still love the name though.

nailsathome Mon 04-May-15 11:39:39

We particularly enjoyed the one about him tying a goat to his testicles.

mrscatmad31 Mon 04-May-15 13:40:24

The history behind Minerva isn't all that pretty but would still use it grin

FishCanFly Mon 04-May-15 14:27:24

I love Thor, Zeus, Hades, Hermes, Gaia, Athena
