Baby names

Ivar? Søren? Any more Scandinavian name suggestions?

It's early days yet, but I've been thinking names.

My surname is Scandinavian and I quite like the idea of a subtle nod towards my new baby's roots. My elder boy has Axel as his middle name.

What do we think or Ivar? Or Søren? And would you use it as a first or a middle name?

Søren is sweet, but i would avoid using 'Ø' if in the UK.
Other nice names in my kids class(norway):
Ulrik
Tor Fredrik
Odin
Ludvig
Viktor
Hadrian
Magnus

We already have an ø in our surname, another wouldn't phase us. You end up dropping it on all forms, but the accent has helped remind people that our surname cannot be pronounced the way it is spelt.

I quite like Magnus, but it could be tricky if he doesn't live up to the name, size-wise!

Fredrik is also nice, but Freddie is getting a bit common over here. It's still on my list but...

Some good suggestions there. I like Kasper and Mathias- although my other half isn't so keen on the latter as it can be shortened to Matt. Some of them are good but a bit too different for a child who will be brought up in England.

I'm only looking at Scandinavian names for boys because if I have a girl I have the name all sussed- Iona, my side of the family have celtic roots and I love the name. I love Caoimhe too, but that would be dooming a child to forever be spelling their name for people and explaining how it is pronounced.

Does no one like Ivar?

Ivar is alright, I neither love it or hate it ;) it's not a very contemporary choice, but it's lovely nonetheless!

Here are a few more suggestions:
Elias (Eli)
Carl/ Karl
Alfred (Freddie/Alfie/Alfred/Alf/Fred)
August (Gus)
Jonas (popular name age group 30-35)
Silas
Also Casper with a C is completely fine -maybe even more normal than with a K...

Love your girls' name Iona too :)

I have a Magnus. I love his name.
from our list was also Tor and Ivor. Ivor dismissed because of the way it went with surname, but Ivar would have worked. its lovely.
