It's not a name is it? Isn't it just made up? Like a cross between Eliza and Elaine.

PetulaGordino Mon 26-Jan-15 13:32:37

according to google it is the name of a german pop group

Optimist1 Mon 26-Jan-15 13:44:57

Never ever heard that name.

HelloItsStillMeFell Mon 26-Jan-15 13:50:49

I don't think it's a real name, at least not in the English language.

Not all names have a meaning anyway. I doubt there is a name invented in the last 100 years that has had any sort of true meaning.

It means you can't spell Eliza! (Seriously though, I've never heard it before)

Sophronia Mon 26-Jan-15 14:11:56

Is it some kind of variant spelling of Eliza? If so it's a short form of Elizabeth which "my God is an oath" or "my God is abundance".

seaoflove Mon 26-Jan-15 14:13:08

Yep, it looks like Eliza spelled wrong.

elaiza looks like phonetic spelling of a fake posh voice, like naice ham

The band's lead singer is called Elsbieta, a Polish version of Elizabeth which often has the nn Ela (the singer uses this nn). The band's web page says that the name should be pronounced Ela-i-sa. That suggests that the band's name is based on her nn.

Alternatively, Elaisa is the name of a house design in the Philippines. (Wonderful thing, Google.) So Elaisa -with-an-s might be a name created fairly recently in that region. In which case, as Hello said above, it might not have any meaning.

Alternatively again, Shahira Elaiza writes a blog about the arts and her Muslim faith: She might know more about her name.

I went to school with a boy called Eliezer.

Is that the name you mean?

It's a Hebrew/Old Testament name. He pronounced it

E as is Edward
A as in Amy
Zer as in Laser
