Hi,
Trying to think of boys name for our little one. After a scare today, I feel like we need to make some progress fast! Please help.
Looking for an unusual yet timeless name. Don't mind a bit off-beat. Could be biblical, literary or Victorian-y. Any suggestions?

Leolan, Leander or Rumgy

Yes, massive range (hence needing help!! Thank you!)

Love Reuban and Elias. Was really keen on Horatio but then my sister pointed out they'd be the 'little hora' if they were naughty.

Rufus
Isaac
Ellis
Gabriel
Asa
Lysander

Isaac seems to be really really popular where we are (as is Noah). So would rule out for that reason.

Lysander has a nice sound. What does it mean/where is it from?

I like Rufus, I know my mum would seriously dislike it though (she had a dog called Rufus and can't see past it).

Bowlersarm Mon 19-Jan-15 22:58:32

Lysander - not sure of its origins - it's literary though - Jilly Cooper grin

00100001 Mon 19-Jan-15 23:00:30

Err... lysander is from Shakespeare

Bowlersarm Mon 19-Jan-15 23:01:35

He was a Spartan admiral. There were probably others!

Bowlersarm Mon 19-Jan-15 23:03:37

There you are, Shakespeare and Jilly Cooper.

Primaryteach87 Mon 19-Jan-15 23:05:47

Haha! Can't be beaten. I like the meaning "liberator"

I'm in the same predicament! My DH and I are really struggling to settle on boys' names but here are some we're considered at various points:

Milo
Percy
Caspar
Timothy
Sebastian (I think this has become more common the last year or so)
Dexter
Leandros / Leonidas
Coridan / Corydon (nn Cory)

Good luck!

Thanks SK28, we know we're having a boy (typical as we had a girl's name sorted!)

Primaryteach87 Mon 19-Jan-15 23:19:45

Ephraim and Bertram are both tempting.

Kentigern Mon 19-Jan-15 23:50:53

Oooh Azariah is nice.
I'm so worried I'm going to make the wrong decision! Unusually, I love my name and have this big fear of getting my first major decision for baby wrong. I think that's why I can't decide, let alone agree with DH.

I'm glad someone gave me another source for Lysander, I thought it was a second world war fighter plane! I do like the way the word sounds though!

Love Edmund.

Earnest
Frederick

Ambrose
Eliezer

I also love Peter, Patrick and Dominic - not unusual as such, but rarely used these days.
